For anglers looking to enjoy some of the best fishing the River Severn has to offer in and around Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury Anglers Club (SAC) provides access to a varied selection of productive river stretches and stillwater fishing.

Established in 2016 by a group of local anglers, the club was created to provide a democratic, transparent and open environment where members could share responsibility for managing their own club and fisheries. It has since grown considerably, with membership limited to 275 anglers. The club is also a member of the Angling Trust, providing insurance for its members.

Fishing in Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury Anglers Club is run and maintained by experienced local anglers with extensive knowledge of the River Severn.

Members have access to seven fisheries, including six stretches of the River Severn and the club's stillwater, Lords Pool:

  • The Albrighton
  • Preston Boats
  • Shelton
  • Pimley Manor
  • Pimley Rough
  • The Royce
  • Lords Pool

The club's river waters offer opportunities to catch a wide variety of species, with barbel, chub, pike and perch among the highlights. Some stretches regularly produce impressive specimens; Pimley Manor is known for double-figure barbel, large chub and productive pike and perch fishing, while Preston Boats has recorded barbel exceeding 13lb.

Night fishing is permitted on the club's river sections, subject to club rules, while Lords Pool operates from 7am until dusk and must be booked in advance.

Joining Shrewsbury Anglers Club

Shrewsbury Anglers Club is a members-only club and does not offer day tickets, so anglers wishing to fish its waters will need to become a member.

The annual subscription for the 2026/27 season is £35, following a vote at the club's 2025 AGM. Membership runs for 12 months from 16th June, coinciding with the start of the river season.

Membership is limited, but prospective members can join the waiting list by emailing the club with their full name, address, postcode and mobile telephone number. If a place is available, applicants may be invited to join immediately; otherwise, they will remain on the waiting list for the next available membership place.

Junior anglers under 16 can fish free when sharing the same swim with a fully paid-up adult member, subject to club rules. Anglers must also carry the appropriate Environment Agency rod licence and their SAC membership permit when fishing club waters.

A Club Run by Anglers, for Anglers

As well as providing access to its waters, Shrewsbury Anglers Club actively manages and maintains its fisheries through work parties and ongoing improvements.

Members are expected to respect the countryside, landowners and fellow anglers, leave no litter and follow the club's fish welfare and safety rules. All fish caught on club waters must be safely returned.

Whether you're particularly interested in pursuing River Severn barbel and chub, searching for specimen predators or simply enjoying time beside the water, Shrewsbury Anglers Club offers a great way for local anglers to experience fishing around Shrewsbury.
