How sad it is that more people do not choose Venue 1886 at the Greenhous Meadow for their Sunday lunch! Once again we were treated to a lovely three course meal, beautifully presented and friendly, attentive service, why oh why do so few people take the opportunity to enjoy? In the past I have had mixed experiences but rarely does the food disappoint and this time improvements have been made, particularly in the plate department! Lovely, large plates for our main course and this is not about the size of the portion (which is always on the generous side), this is about the fact that there is plenty of room on the plate to see all that is there and of course it looks so much more appetising when not squashed up! The beef is always excellent and yesterday was no exception. It may be a little quiet for some, I have heard that the "lack of atmosphere" puts people off but on the plus side there is no banging and clanging of chairs on bare wooden floors, no constant hub bub to restrict conversation within your own group. Value for money, ample parking, good quality, well presented fare and all with attentive service; what's not to like?

This was a great choice of venue for a recent charity dinner dance. Easily accessible with plenty of free parking. Good food, excellent service and amazing live band: the 'Hot Jazz Biscuits'. What more can I say....

Have been here on a few occasions. It varies in terms of numbers on different sundays depending on whether its a special sunday. My last visit in January, it was very quiet, but then most places are. Access is good, as is parking, as located just off new A5.Food is traditional choice of roasts. A bit expensive as sunday roasts go, compared to (say) a pub chain. Service is ok. If you are lucky with seating you could just have a view of stfc's pitch!!

I last ate Sunday lunch at the restaurant in Shrewsbury Town Football Club's restaurant a couple of years ago. Food and service diabolical. A shame then, as when I had first eaten there a year or so earlier you'd have been hard-pressed to get a table on a Sunday unless you had pre-booked. I agreed to go there again when my good friend and his wife suggested going for Sunday lunch to celebrate his birthday. Apparently, Shrewsbury Town's restaurant now employs some people who used to be part of the catering and front-of-house staff of the Lord Hill Hotel when that establishment was going through a halcyon phase before it went rapidly into decline. I remember the old-style silver service at the Lord Hill with linen tablecloths, melba toast awaiting you and roast beef carved at the table. That place was packed then. Great, I thought, if the Town's restaurant (Venue1886) was like that. Booking was no problem, the friendly lady on the end of the phone happily accepted my booking for 4 people at 1.30pm. On the day, my lady friend and I turned up and were directed to the "President's Suite" on the 2nd Floor. We were quickly shown to the table and offered drinks whilst waiting for our 2 guests. The table had a linen tablecloth and.... melba toast! Great! I looked around.... only 5 other tables full but did include a largish group. I could hear laughter across the corridor from a small group in a presumably private function room. This is going to be good I thought. We found a couple of (paper) menus on the table and studied them. 3 courses for £16.95 incl VAT. Gratuities optional. Our friends had arrived and we were ready to order. Unfortunately.... no service. This was a theme that continued throughout the lunch. Not that they were busy... other tables were waiting to order / have plates cleared etc. I knew there were waiting staff but, to be fair, they could have been dealing with the private function - but that's not my problem. The maitre'd came over and talked to my friends. Eventually we ordered 2x pate starters and 2x prawn starters followed by 3x roast beef and a chicken. Plus a bottle of Merlot (£16.95). The young waitress brought a basket of bread rolls. They weren't warm and a bit heavy. The starters were fantastic though. The pate was great; my friends' prawns really good. The starters were cleared and we were served mains. I ordered roast beef without the yorkshire pudding (as I don't like them) and this was done for me. My friends' meals looked fantastic. The waiter I recognised from The Lord Hill. He did the classic silver-service of veg - with mixed veg (cauli, carrots etc) ok plus red cabbage (good). Potatoes (3 types - roast, boiled/steamed? and mash served on the plate). The wine was brought to the table unopened (hurrah!), opened at the table and was good. We had a really good main course. My roast beef was the best-cooked I have had for a long time. So, we waited for our plates to be cleared. And waited. And waited. I timed it.. 15 minutes without any table service or bar staff in attendance. People at the other tables looked equally concerned. Maybe the private function was taking up more time but really a dining-room shouldn't be empty of staff for so long..... The waitress eventually re-entered the dining room, looked back at a passing person in the corridor and loudly announced 'you're disgusting!' in earshot of my table. This was quite unprofessional. She sniggered as she proceeded to clear tables. After another wait we eventually ordered desserts. Needless to say, the desserts were spot-on. I paid the bill of £99.45 for 4 and we left. I had to walk up to the bar to pay as there was, once again, no table service. I didn't feel I could leave a tip. In sum, I did enjoy my visit to Venue1886. The food was great. It was let down by slow service. Venue1886 has every potential for 5-stars through food alone but on today's experience it's a 4.

Sat down for Fathers Day lunch with 4 family members at 1:30. Drinks and menu were out fairly promptly and we ordered 4 beef (as the lamb had already sold out) and 1 chicken. The starters of pate or melon were very good and were out in good time. We waited 20 minutes to get our plates cleared away and another 10 for the mains to arrive. After we had all finished my daughter got a little cross and went to ask someone to clear our table after waiting 25 minutes. They were quite quick to take our dessert orders and bring them, but again they weren't cleared away for over 20 minutes after finishing. We then had coffee and petit fours which was reasonably prompt, but while we still there they started clearing the tablecloths etc away from the empty tables. We were only asked once in two and a half hours if we would like another drink. The waiter did make the excuse that they didn't like to appear to rush people, but we felt quite frankly ignored when other people that arrived at the same time or later appeared to have far better service than we did.
A real shame as I am a Shrewsbury Town supporter and my daughter and son-in-law went to great efforts to arrange this for me.

Many years ago you used to have to book weeks ahead to get a table for Sunday lunch. Not now, but I know not why 5 of us went today the meal was first class service very prompt and price fixed at just over £16 for three courses. Will definitely be going again you know exactly where you are when price fixed. Also fresh jug of water with ice and lemon on table without asking.

Good choice of meals. The roast beef and roast potatoes were lovely. Service was good. Cost very reasonable. Will definitely be going for Sunday lunch again before the next mother's day!

We had a family celebration here celebrating two birthdays. There were 17 of us including 6 children one who has to eat a special diet. We were in a suite on our own which meant we had no concerns about making a lot of noise. The food was delicious plenty of choice for all. They cooked our grandson his special meal nothing was too much trouble. The staff were excellent and we didn't feel rushed in anyway. I would recommend trying it especially for larger family get togethers.

Sunday Lunch at Venue 1886 is always enjoyable, the food is delicious, the service excellent, very attentive and accommodating; it may be fashionable to serve dishes on slate these days but it that is not to your taste just be sure to let them know when ordering and it will not be too much trouble and your food will still arrive at the table looking simply delicious and will not disappoint. The roast beef is exceptional and even if the Yorkshire pudding can be a little overbearing just pop it onto your side plate and take it from there! The service is very professional and staff always appear to be well trained and pleasant, they actually seem to get the fact that people are there for a pleasant meal in pleasant surroundings, staff who actually seem to care whether they are delivering a good experience does seem to be a rarity in many establishments these days! I have heard that some diners feel the surroundings lack atmosphere but you know we really enjoy eating our meal without people barging about, noisy chairs scraping across wooden floors and the outlook, whether in the Sovereign Suite or the Presidents suite are delightful. If you want to feel you have had delicious, quality food, well worth the money served to you by pleasant staff with the minimum of fuss then Sunday Lunch at Venue 1886 is the place to go

We held a Facebook for Business training workshop at Shrewsbury Town FC and Stuart and the team were most accommodating. Everything was well set-up and it was a fantastic room overlooking the pitch. The buffet afterwards was of very high quality too.

Visited Venue 1886 today with friends for Sunday lunch. What can I say. We had the 3 course menu which was excellent value, the waitresses were attentive and could not do enough for us. The quality and presentation of the food we would rate as first class. Would certainly recommend but before going would advise to book

I have just taken a group of elderly people for Christmas lunch at this venue (President's Suite) and was impressed with the service and the quality of the food. One small quibble over the potatoes was dealt with quickly and there were no other complaints, just some very satisfied customers!

We have held two business networking events at Venue 1886, Shrewsbury Town FC, and both were a great success. Hopefully my content had something to do with it... but guests commented on the superb facilities, food and of course the ease of parking. A great choice, and the hospitality team are very easy to deal with and get hold of.

I came for the Bristol Rovers match on Valentines Day and would like to compliment the waiting staff who were enthusiastic and efficient in their roles. The food was of a very high standard and delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Lunch at Shrewsbury Town Football Club is not to be missed. The food is exceptional, I have been eating here for about a year and I have to say that I have always been impressed. Today my favourite was the sponge pudding with syrup and honeycomb, it was to die for. The meals are always wonderful and I look forward to them all week.

Nothing is too much trouble and the staff are all friendly and welcoming. I would whole-heartedly recommend this venue to anybody looking for a quality, value for money meal.

I have been to several functions and business meetings here, I have found the staff to be friendly and polite - even when I parked in the wrong spot ;-)

Great parking and a venue that is easy to get too. Highly recommend it.

Not a football fan - so can't speak about that part...

We were fantastically well looked after. The food was very good, exceptionally well presented and friendly attentive staff. Having enjoyed hospitality at Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal to name a few - this is comparable (and better than most!).

We arranged to celebrate our son's 21st birthday at Shrewsbury Town Football Club by booking the Sovereign Suite for a party of 80 guests on Sunday 28th August 2011. We were very pleased with the organisation of the event from booking to the overseeing of the evening. All very professionally done.

Having had Sunday lunches at the club previously, we knew that very good quality food was provided on those occasions. We were not disappointed therefore with the finger buffet we chose.

For most of the guests it was their first visit to the Football Club and they were very impressed with the stadium. We were all made to feel very welcome and I would strongly recommend the Football Club facilities for anyone thinking of celebrating a special occasion.

Having been an owner and run a very successful business with a pub/restaurant I can honestly say that my dining experience at Shrewsbury Football Club was first class. Absolutely superb, reception was excellent, food presentation first class and taste excellent.

All the staff were very accommodating. I can and have thoroughly recommended this venue to all. Top marks for the chef from someone who knows about good food!

After many recommendations we decided to try Shrewsbury Town Football Club for Sunday lunch. Everything about the experience was outstanding. The food was excellent (especially the dessert), the staff were very competent and friendly and made our afternoon at the hospitality suite very enjoyable.

I will most definitely recommend Shrewsbury Town's dining - not only was the food great, it was good value for money. The chefs are obviously doing a great job.
