Small retailers in Rugeley have reason to celebrate after the town was ranked first in the UK in a mystery shopping exercise designed to test the town’s overall shopping experience.
Throughout September, independent shops in Rugeley were secretly assessed by trained market research professionals as part of a Location Model project, designed by Skillsmart Retail, the Sector Skills Council for Retail, on behalf of Advantage West Midlands.
After two visits to each of 24 shops, the town’s overall score was rated at 91.2 per cent, higher than 65 other towns in the UK which have taken part in the project, including Cheltenham, Nottingham and Stratford-upon-Avon.
Individual shops performed very well, with 18 of the 24 shops scoring above the benchmark of 80 per cent. thebestofrugeley members Rebecca Jayne's at Min 'N' Match scored an impressive 97.5%.
This report goes to show that Rugeley has fantastic people and business run by such people. Lets just hope that these great local businesses can draw more businesses into the town.
There are some less positive points highlighted by the report including visitors feeling unsafe and litter. Now that these issues have been highlighted by an independent report lets hope action is taken to address them. These should not over shadow the fantastic service provided by local retailers.
