With the London riots spilling into other towns and cities, is your Rugby home or business protected?

We have all been shocked and dismayed at the last few days’ riots in London. We can’t get away from the horrendous images of mindless thugs setting fire to buildings, ransacking shops, destroying property and forcing local residents to fear venturing out of their doors.

Last night, we saw this violence not only escalate, but spread to other cities in the UK, such as Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol and Birmingham.

We all hope that it is soon contained by the police and that the riots don't affect Rugby businesses and citizens. With that in mind we must all make sure that we are protected just in case the worst happens.

Home Insurance

Have you checked your home insurance policy lately? Is it still in date? Are you covered for civil disturbances and riots?

Contents insurance is also a vital aspect of ensuring that you’re sufficiently covered. Ask yourself – have you recently bought a new computer, television or expensive piece of jewellery? Will this affect the value of your home's contents?

Business Insurance

Rioters seem to be targeting businesses as opposed to residential areas, so it is vital that Rugby businesses – particularly those that own premises in the town centre or industrial estates – are thoroughly protected.

Your stock, equipment, computers and intellectual information forms the basis of your business and if you lose any of all of these, will you be able to carry on trading? Business insurance is essential but there are other factors to consider:

  • Have you got disaster strategies in place?
  • Have you recently backed up your data and client information?

Remember that cheap policies can be a false economy – after all, what’s the point in paying an annual fee if it doesn’t cover you for all eventualities?

If you are unsure of whether your current home, contents or business policy covers all eventualities, contact Rugby insurance brokers, Coversure Insurance Services. for Free advise.

Security

It may sound obvious, but make sure that your home and business are protected by closing and locking all windows and doors. Many of us have a window that’s warped and won’t close properly, or perhaps with a sticky lock, so perhaps now is the time to finally get it fixed.

Finally, although we’d much rather not mention it, if Rugby is affected by the riots, it is essential that you check your smoke alarm. Croxford Electrical understands how important it is to have adequate warning and protection in case of fire, offering fire alarms for residential and business premises.

Hopefully, we are just being over cautious but let’s all make sure that everyone is safe and sound in their homes.
