Movember and Sons 2012
30th October 2012

Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in Rugby, UK and around the world during November.

The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer. This year is bigger’ and better than ever.

2012 is the year of Movember and Sons.

Knowledge shared from one generation to the next and wisdom passed down by one’s dad or mentor, plays a meaningful role in shaping who we become. This learning continues throughout life but also reaches a point at which the exchange is reversed and insight is passed back up the chain.

This Movember, we will encourage all men to seek and share knowledge and wisdom with mates and loved ones, to learn their family health history and to understand the risks they face. These simple actions can have a significant impact of the quality and longevity of your journey through life.

Movember was first established in 2003 by a few friends over a few beers in a pub just outside Melbourne, Australia.  The goal was simple – to create a campaign promoting the growth of the moustache among likeminded people, and to have fun along the way. It is about real men, talking about real issues and changing the face of men’s health, one moustache at a time. Movember now spans the globe, with campaigns in 21 countries in 2012.

Last year saw over 852,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas across the globe raise a phenomenal £79.3 million with more than £22 million of that coming from the UK.

So Mo's  Register!

Once registered at each Mo Bro must begin the 1st of Movember with a clean shaven face. For the entire month each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache. There is to be no joining of the mo to the sideburns (that’s considered a beard), there’s to be no joining of the handlebars to the chin (that’s considered a goatee) and each Mo Bro must conduct himself like a true gentleman.

A Mo Sista is essentially a woman who loves a Mo. An individual that is dedicated to supporting the Mo Bros in her life through their moustache growing journey; whether it be a friend, colleague, family member or partner. These inspirational women are committed to raising awareness of men’s health issues and much needed funds for men’s health along the way.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

At the end of the month Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrate their Movember journey throwing their own Movember parties or attending one of the Gala Partés held around the world to stand tall and celebrate the moustache.

This year Movember and Sons 2012 is bigger, bushier and better than ever before.

Each Team Mo space has its own area for fundraising, updates and photos.

This year Movember UK are introducing four more Movember Network Challenges including Creative Challenge, Oil and Gas Challenge, Schools Challenge and Gaming Challenge seeking to bring together companies in the same industry in a fun, competitive environment.

These will all lay down the gauntlet for even more Mo Bros and Mo Sistas, allowing them to compete within their field and find out who will emerge victorious!

Brand new customisable party posters, thank you posters and Facebook timeline banners, to name but a few of the downloadable goodies available this year to help you along your Mo journey.

Everything the moustache aficionado will ever need to know about the magnificent Mo. Inspiration, tips, styling, history and much, much Mo.

Leeds and Belfast have been added to the ever-growing roster of Gala Partés, giving the Mo Bros and Mo Sistas there their very own end-of-month celebration extravaganza.

The Movember campaign has stretched its moustache tendrils to the far corners of the globe and welcomed seven more countries into the family business:  France, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Singapore – the more Mo’s the merrier!

Coming soon - keep your eyes peeled for when the new mobile app will be up and running.

A shiny new mobile website will be available soon for your delight and delectation, where you can donate and check out your Mo Space on the go.
