Grants are available to volunteer and community groups and organisations based in the borough of Rugby as the Community Grant Applications are now open for 2013/14.

Community organisations across the Rugby area are now able to apply for grants being provided by Rugby Borough Council - Don't miss out - apply now!

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 12 April 2013.

Cllr Leigh Hunt, portfolio holder for Sustainable Inclusive Communities, said: "The award of grants to community organisations provides a valuable opportunity for the voluntary and community sector in Rugby, which is doing an excellent job.

"I would urge any community group that fits our funding criteria to consider applying for these grants.

"We know that funding is becoming increasingly tough for some organisations. In addition to making these community grants available once again, we have maintained our service level agreements. These agreements fund certain community associations, as well as supporting other organisations that are working hard in Rugby to meet the priorities of our regeneration strategy, such as the Credit Union and Age UK."

There are five types of grant available

• Grants to voluntary organisations are small grants of up to £1,500 each available for local voluntary and community groups to help toward the cost of projects and activities that benefit the local community. Applications must show how projects will help to meet the objectives of the locality plan for the area in which the project is to take place. Examples of projects supported previously include: support groups, community events and project costs for local community groups.
• The rural development fund offers grants of up to £10,000 each to voluntary and community groups to assist projects in the rural area of the borough. Applications must show how projects will help to meet the objectives of the locality plan for the area in which the project is to take place. Examples of projects supported previously include: leisure projects for youth and projects for wildlife.
• Sport grants of up to £1,000 each help community sports clubs and organisations with events or projects to develop and sustain their services and activities. Applications must show how the proposed activity will help to meet the key priorities of the council’s corporate strategy. Examples of projects supported previously include: one-off pieces of large capital equipment, tournaments, open days, coach education and support for new sections of a club.
• Play grants of up to £1,000 each help community organisations or groups with events or projects to develop and sustain play provision within the borough of Rugby. Applications must show how the proposed activity will help to meet the key priorities for the council’s corporate strategy. Examples of projects supported previously include: community or Parish Council play equipment, costs towards play events/open days and set-up costs for new groups.
• Arts grants of up to £1,000 each help the creative industries of Rugby, including artists and organisations, to develop and sustain their services and activities for the benefit of Rugby residents. Applications must show how the proposed activity will help to meet at least one of the art grant aims and the council’s corporate strategy key priorities. Examples of projects supported previously include: theatre production, exhibitions, community creative workshops and activities, and village arts festival.
