Your chance - Your Vote Counts - Your Local Council - Use It!

All-out election is a local election in which all council seats are up for grabs!

The system for voting for Local Councillors is similar to voting for Members of Parliament in a general election. In England and Wales, the candidate who gets the most votes wins – this is called a 'first-past-the-post' voting system.

Below is a checklist for voters issued by Rugby Borough Council has issued to help them have their say in the Local Council Elections on Thursday 3rd May 2012.

• Check where you should vote. Some polling stations have changed this year due to the new ward boundaries. Details of your polling station are on your poll card. If you have not received it or are unsure of where to go call (01788) 533595. Polling stations will be open from 7am – 10pm on Thursday 3 May 2012.
• You can check the name of your new ward by using our online ward-checker. Log onto www.rugby.gov.uk/elections and enter your postcode and house number where prompted.
• Bring your poll card with you to the polling station, it may speed things up.
• Remember that this year you may be able to vote for more than one candidate - most wards will be returning three councillors, so in these areas you will have three votes.
• If you’re unsure of how to complete your ballot paper, a member of staff will be able to help you.
• Make sure you leave plenty of time to get to the polling station and vote. If you haven't been issued with a ballot paper by 10pm you will be unable to vote, even if you are inside the polling station at close of poll.
• If you applied for a postal vote, make sure it is returned by 10pm on Thursday 3 May 2012. If you have left it too late to post back, you can drop it off at your polling station.
But don’t worry if you don’t have it, you can still vote without it.
