By Graham Newcombe     Valentine's day has been and gone, and at least two of the cities supermarkets  (one in Farlington and one very close to Fratton Park) are awash with cheap leftover blooms. Large  bunches on sale at 94p reduced from £15 with a shelf life of 7 days remaining! But sad to think that they have probably been flown from Holland to Mexico for treatment before being flown back to the Uk in time for an    ignominious end. Buy from your local florist especially if they stock local grown blooms, ask them….How much more romantic (and ethical, not to mention green)  would it be to plant a few spring  flowering bulbs in a suitable planter to present to your loved one, grown with love rather than from the wallet. Same goes for everyday needs, veg grown from seeds are far healthier for  the person and the planet than jetsetting greens!    If you would like to join us visit www.southseagreenhouse.co.uk
