With the eagerly awaited Windows 7 now on our door steps, on new PCs and laptops all over the world. In our faces, on our TVs we can all say its HERE at last! the operating system to save Microsoft from the much hated Vista [Not my opinion!].

Over the last few months since the release i am often asked "Should I upgrade?", "Is it any good?". I answer probably soon and yes is it just as good as  Vista and Xp are. So over the next few weeks i will talk briefly on the pros and cons of Windows 7 so you can make your own choice, or at least a slightly more informed choice! lol.

The first major PRO, the minumum requirements to run Windows 7 are less hungry than that of vista! yes this is a great thing, this means we can cram Windows 7 on to many older systems within reason of course. It means that the budget tech freaks out there that cannot refuse a bargain! will not have to upgrade the hardware after a few new updates and hotfixes. It also makes it a feesable task to change all your PCs in your house over to Win 7 with out worrying about massive upgrades and networking commuinication issues.

What are the down sides to this you ask?

For some mad reason we are obsessed with backwards compatilibtly, there was out-crys when office 2007s new file format was not compatbile with Office 2003. When it was discovered that Vista just did not want to really talk to XP based PCs on the same network it cause serial bloggers all over the world to call for Bill Gates head on a stick. To stand next to their newtons cradle! But why are we so scared of moving forward! its good! its progress! its exciting! We all expect our PCs and laptops to do more and more every day with less and less hardware behind it. Personally when Vista's minimum specifications were listed i was happy it was pretty hungry and i thought yes, time people starting investing in REAL hardware. This should give them the push to by a GOOD pc and not something that will just do!

So downside is the reduction of minimum hardware in Windows 7 dose not push people forward but allows people take one step forward with the purchase of Windows 7 but 3 steps back by putting it on there 4 old  PC and never really appricating the power of the program.

Like My Wife just said! its like putting go faster stripes on a 20 year old Ford Cortina and expecting 55 miles to the gallon!

Rant over!
