Gary Downes of Volvo Cars Poole celebrates at the RideLondon-Surrey

A team member at a local car retailer has raised £600 for a Dorset charity, after taking part in a 100-mile bike ride.

Gary Downes, from Volvo Cars Poole, swapped four wheels for two last weekend, after taking to the road for the RideLondon-Surrey 100.

The cycling fan, who is New Car Sales Manager at the Volvo retailer on Ringwood Road, spent over six hours in the saddle and has raised £600 (to date) for Dorset Cancer Care Foundation - a charity that helps local people and families affected by cancer.

Gary, from Halstock, comments: “I’m so proud that my efforts have helped to raise valuable funds for the Dorset Cancer Care Foundation. The local charity means so much to the team here at Volvo Cars Poole, as it provided much-needed support to one of our colleagues when they were diagnosed with cancer last year.

“The bike ride was a thoroughly enjoyable experience - from the crowds cheering at the start to the feeling of pure elation at the finish – every mile was worth it. I’m very grateful to everyone who has supported me and donated to the fund. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event!”

James Litton, General Manager and Director, adds: “We are very proud of Gary. He trained very hard and was so focussed on raising much-needed funds. We are delighted that his determination truly paid off.”
