Poole Town ran out 3-0 winners at home to Newport on Tuesday night with a late first half goal from Ross Lloyd, making it 1-0 at half time.  In the seond half, Poole were made to work and wait patiently to wrap the points up, with a disallowed goal from Stuart Gates, judged to have been offside, depite there being a defender on the goal-line.  Michael Wlaker did eventually make it 2-0 to the Dolphins, with another header and a 5th goal in 10 games for the tall defender since returning from Wimborne.  Steve Smith put the game beyond doubt when he scored the third and his 28th goal of the season with a header after just being booked by the referee for pushing a Newport defender that was stood on his foot.

That win lifts the Dolphins above Wimborne by one point and still with 3 games in hand.  Poole are now firm favorites to lift the title for the second season in succession.

Next up for Poole is a trip to Winchester on Saturday 20th, followed by the first leg of the Wessex League Cup Semi Final away to Farnborough North End.  Then another away league game on Sat 27th at Fareham before the return Second Leg Semi Final against FNE back at Tatnam on Tuesday 30th March.  Incidentally the winners could face Newport in the final, as they play an out of form Bemerton in the other Semi.
