The British are often said to be obsessed with the weather. Our little island is known for it's changing weather and this Winter in particular has been a trying one. Record snow levels and biting cold temperatures have many of us wishing for Spring and milder climes.
On the rare Winter days the sun does put his hat on, Bournemouth and Poole's beaches are descended upon by hundreds of people out to enjoy it. The warmth and brightness is a welcome break to a dreary and cold winter.
Often when the sun shines, it can seem a great idea to get the camera out for some nice family pictures; maybe kids walking on the beach or in a forest. After all, what could look better than a bright sunny day?
Well, for photos of people actually we might be better avoiding those sunny days. Too much sun can be a bad thing for getting the best shots of people. Squinting or scrunched up faces aren't a great look.
My advice is love the clouds. OK no-one likes overcast days or rain too much but if you want to get great shots of your kids or family, the clouds can be very welcome. Clouds give us nice, soft light, avoiding shadows and the squinting faces which can happen when it is too sunny. At the beach or in a forest, clouds give great light helping to avoid bright spots which can ruin a photo.
All you need to do now is a cloudy day to practice on. There's no shortage of those at the moment.*
* I bet it's going to be sunny loads now I've said that! Fingers crossed...
