DYMB To Buy A Van

The Dorset Youth Marching Band of Wimborne need help to raise funds towards a support vehicle; this vehicle is used to transport band instruments and equipment to events when the band are performing in public, it is also used to store their equipment and instruments to keep them safe and ready for use.

As a registered charity with very limited funding DYMB have had to save hard to put money aside to replace the vehicle, which has now sadly, reached its end of life. As well as fund raising for a new van they will also need to keep the Band instruments and uniforms maintained, for example a new uniform jacket for a child is £200, which they supply, as their principle is that, money, should not present a barrier to a child becoming a member.

As a small charity and relatively unknown, the band cannot afford to pay fundraisers and so all the money they raise for the band has to be done through busking and sponsored events on a very small scale and organised by the band and a few dedicated volunteers.

Although they have been saving they are still several thousand pounds short of reaching their goal and need a further £4000 to top up their savings to be able to purchase a reasonable quality van and put some form of racking inside the van to store the equipment safely.

All donations will be gratefully accepted and the band are open to discuss opportunities for businesses to sponsor the band or the vehicle in return for advertising. If you are an organisation providing funding to Youth Organisations DYMB would be pleased to hear from you on how they can apply for grants or funding.

ABOUT – DORSET YOUTH MATCHING BAND

The band has been in existence and helping young people in the community for around 20 years after breaking away from being a scout band in 1996.

The band is made up from mostly young children, and young adults who have remained with the band for many years who are now role models for the new younger members. The band takes children from all backgrounds and abilities including children with disabilities. The band provides all the instruments and uniforms the band members need and trains them on how to play the instruments and how to march using drill instructions.

The band provides young people the opportunity to express themselves, build confidence and self esteem, learn to play a musical instrument and perform in public in a disciplined yet fun environment. They adopt a positive approach to everything they do within band to enable children to grow and become valuable members of society with high values and goals.

DYMB are a Wimborne town band and perform in the town and local community as well as travelling and performing at carnivals and events throughout Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset. Every year the band visits France and performs in events with other French bands at Saumur in the Loire Valley.
