Poole Town FC ground out an important win at Bemerton Heath Harlequins to extend their lead over Bemeton to 6 points.
The Dolphins took an early lead via a Carl Preston header, with just 3 mins on the clock. They had the best of the first half and scored again just before half-time when Stuart Brown went one on one with the keeper. Kevin Gill also put the ball in the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out by the ref, claiming the ball was knocked out of the keepers hands.
Early in the second half, Dave Sturgess was brought down in the penalty area and the Bemerton defender, being the last man, was sent off. Unfortunately the Bemerton keeper saved Carl Prestons resulting penalty. Thereafter Bemerton had their best spell of the game and as often is the case, ten men were harder to beat than eleven. Bemerton got one back and then troubled the Dolphins goal in the last few minutes, but the Dolphins held on to take the well earned points.
Poole remain in second place, behind Wimborne who also won. The gap remains just 2 points, but Poole have 4 games in hand.
Up next for the Dolphins is the away trip to Blackfield & Langley on Saturday 27th February 2010.
