At a recent meeting with a local butchers I found out that he was a member of 'the worshipful company of butchers' awarded to him after winning young butcher of the year award in 1997?!

This posed many questions, how does one receive such an accolade and furthermore or more importantly what is it?

After doing some brief online research its evident that the Worshipful company of butchers exists primarily as a trade association for the meat industry. Its roots date back to 975! in the 1300 the worshipful company of butchers received rights to regulate the industry. A form of which they still operate to this day. Now in it's more modern form its recognised as a membership body for which, long standing butchers may apply to become members on an annual basis. Google 'The Worshipful Company of Butchers' to find out an in depth history.

Any how Gerwyn Harries a local butchers at South Wales Meats can boast such a membership - his business primarily serves the trade in the form of Hotels, Restaurants and Public Houses.

In my opinion its outstanding to see such succesful business men being recognised within their industry based in our very own RCT.
