Pontypridd Regeneration Project - The Pontypridd Makeover

Finally something is being done to breathe some life into the dying town centre of Pontypridd. Over the past few years many of us have noticed a decline in the quality of the shopping experience in the town and as a result most have now chosen to go and spend their money elsewhere.

The governments attempts to help revive the town are under way. The plans for this "Regeneration project" are to demolish and replace the eyesore that was the old Taff vale Shopping centre with a completely new built and more modern unit.

This new centre will include three large shop units, three small shop units, a new restaurant and an outdoor terrace area overlooking the river. Also there are plans to improve the underground parking facilities by making it a better lit area with safer pedestrian access.

Millions of pounds have been spent in the attempt to return the town to its former glory and so I wonder, how eargerly are the government looking to cash in on there investment?  Will the price of this newly refurbished car park increase?

Enhancing the current car park is a welcome idea. But it doesn't solve the problem of the limited number of spaces available. Other shopping centre's such as Talbot Green not only have plenty of spaces, they also offer free parking.

This in many's opinion has been another contributing factor in the decline of the towns economy. Who's going to pay for something when they don't have to! Surely it would be better to offer the shoppers of Pontypridd the same luxury of free parking so that more would choose to actually visit the place?

The project is coming up close to the end of the demolition process and I and I'm sure many of the areas locals are excited to see the new centre up and running.

The question now on the minds of many of the locals is that what businesses are going to establish themselves in the new unit. Speculation indicates that Farmfoods and Wilkinsons could be a new addition to Pontypridd, but wether this has any basis of truth is unknown or is this just the wishful thinking of the locals?

Can anybody shed some light here?....
