Posh Breeze Through First Week
9th August 2013

Peterborough United have enjoyed a faultless start to their Sky Bet League One season, with a week in which they scored 6 goals and conceded just one.

That will be good news to manager, Darren Ferguson, who is hopeful that Posh will at least make the playoffs this season and make an immediate return to the Championship after being relegated in May.

Peterborough kicked off the season last Saturday (03 August) at home to Swindon Town, and a 9th minute goal from Britt Assombalonga was all that was needed to see off their opponents, The Robins, who are expected to finish mid-table this season.

If a win on opening day wasn't enough of a confidence boost for Posh, a midweek thrashing of fellow League One contenders, Colchester United, will do a good deal to blow out the summer cobwebs and settle early nerves. Peterborough beat their East Anglian rivals 5-1 in round one of the Capital One Cup, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium. Goals came from Gabriel Zakuani, Tyrone Barnett, Tommy Rowe, and two from Lee Tomlin.

Posh will play newly-promoted Premiership side Reading at home in the second round.

Posh currently sit 7th in the table, one place below Colchester.

After Tuesday's performance however, Ferguson will be confident his players will be finishing much higher than them come next May.

Peterborough United play Notts County this Saturday (10 August). Come on the Posh!
