CKN PRINT

There are many businesses that hide their light under a bushel, and CKN Print is one of them! Based in Round Spinney, Northampton, CKN Print is collaboration between Danny Cannon, Jay Kingston and Andy Newbury – hence the name CKN!

All three gentlemen had been in the print business for many years and knew each other through their various contacts within the industry. Some 7 years later, they have a staff of 34, many having been with them since day 1.

In an ever increasing and demanding industry, their aim is to ensure that their clients ‘get what they want’, from receiving accurate quotations, production of excellent quality print, delivered on time, every time through a continual shift system of working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

CKN are sheet fed printers using Heidelberg B1 sheet fed printing presses. Just taking a look around the place is fascinating – the machines are enormous and it gives you a real sense of magnitude when you see your ‘job’ on the presses. The digital colour proofs that they produce are finger printed to their presses, enabling accurate colour balance after approval by the client.

Their bindery department has been completely refurbished which allows them to finish in house the vast majority of their work, but if they need a specialist finish, they will only use their preferred suppliers who they know have the same ethos as them.

Lee Varney showed me around the premises and took great pride in telling me about the process of printing, what happens to artwork before it goes to print and the different stages of getting it from the repro department to the finished article.

CKN are really one of the leading printers in Northampton. They are great at what they do, have many years experience in the print industry and have credentials within the transport industry, having won contracts with First Bus and First Rail.

CKN are ISO 9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001 and FSC and PEFC accredited, which is reassuring to know that they walk the walk as well as talking the talk!
