Now that it’s summer (with the occasional rainy days!), finding fun things to do in the sun is essential.

Below, are 5 ways you can spend a day in the sun in Northampton

  1. 1.    Abington Park

Abington Park is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day with your family on a hot day… especially if you have little kids! It is very child friendly, so the kids will definitely be kept entertained.

With an aviary, a museum, bandstand, café, pond area with ducks, tennis courts and a large play area with lots of slides and climbing frames, this park is ideal for entertaining kids and enjoying a day in the sun. Adults enjoy this park as much as kids, simply take a book to read while enjoying the history and atmosphere of the park, or go for that jog in the park instead of your normal routine!

Head over to Abington Park, picnic in hand, and prepare to have a fun-filled family day or a day of peaceful solitude!

Address: Park Avenue South, Northampton NN1 5LW.

  1. 2.    Castle Ashby Gardens

Castle Ashby is the ancestral home of the 7th Marquess of Northampton.

Open everyday of the year; take a stroll through the gardens and a walk through history.

Castle Ashby has a number of beautiful gardens (the Italian Gardens & Orangery, and the Butterfly & Secret Gardens are two of my personal favourites!).

Castle Ashby has so much to offer, especially with its Menagerie – where there are a variety of animals for the public to meet; a family of meerkats, chipmunks, and marmosets to name but a few.

They also have tearooms where guests can have High Tea for just £13.95 per person! Enjoy a selection of delicious cakes, scones sandwiches with tea or coffee, for an extremely reasonable price! But Castle Ashby know that High Tea isn’t everyone cup of tea… which is why their children’s play area is situated in close proximity to the tea room, so that they don’t get bored while you sip your tea and enjoy some scones!

This is one place in Northampton you don’t want to miss!

  1. 3.    Althorp House

This is a great location so spend a nice, hot day! Visitors can explore this historical house full of character on guided tours, where they can see beautiful interiors and one of Europe’s finest private collections of furniture, pictures and ceramics.

The park and remodelled gardens make the perfect place to go for a stroll on a summer’s day, combined with the peaceful and serene Round Oval Lake.

There is also a café – Stables Café – where visitors can enjoy refreshments and then proceed to visiting the gift shop.

The art collection is inspiring, and the ‘lived in’ feel of the house is very welcoming, and spending an enjoyable day here learning about the history and taking in the scenery is one of the nicest ways to spend a summer’s day in Northampton.

Opening dates and times are subject to change, so make sure you check before you go!

  1. 4.    Rookery Open Farm

This one is perfect for the kids.

A fun-filled educational farm awaits you! This commercial sheep and cattle farm was created for families and schools to enjoy, while simultaneously learning about farming methods

Children are fortunate to have close contact with a large variety of animals at Rookery Open Farm, which always leaves them wanting to come back! Visitors can indulge in picnics either inside or out. But don’t worry - there is a tearoom for the adults where you can enjoy refreshments while watching your children in the play areas. There are indoor and outdoor purpose built activity areas that children can enjoy.

The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere encourages not just the kids but the adults too, to learn about the different animals and farming methods.

A special bonus at this farm: during lambing and calving season, visitors will be able to see some of the baby lams and calves being born!

Visit this farm for a fun family day out, it won’t disappoint!

Spend the day climbing and swinging your way through trees, on the full ropes course adventure. This has 6 different zones ready for you to take on! Alternatively, you can have a go on the 18m Shock Drop swing.

The helpful and highly trained staff ensure that you enjoy and make the most out of your trip to Tree Ninja!
