The 11+: stop messing with our children's future

I'm pretty exasperated with our politicians who won't sit down round a table and sort out the important issues that have to be dealt with. Like the economy, perhaps, fuel poverty and the shambles that is the handling of the transfer test.

My daughter has just gone into P6. But when we met with her teacher to talk about the teaching plan for the year, he told us he didn't have the slightest idea wheter or not she would be sitting a transfer test next year. And if she doesn't, nobody seems to have any idea of what is going to happen.

The grammar schools are planning entrance exams, apparently. But frankly, while I understand they have to react in some way, I can't see how they are going to adminster that without getting themselves into difficulty and possibly find them selves in court battles with parents unhappy with the results.

Meanwhile, my daughter is getting mixed messages from friends and family as rumour and counter rumour abound: there is a test planned for 2009: no there isn't. She's nearvous, we don't know what to do about it, and the amateurs who we have elected to run the country are in a huff about where we should build our stadium.

It's a shambles and I'm mad about it.
