Gardening Tips for June
5th June 2017
... Comments
This month, the focus is on keeping plants healthy and making the most of your garden.  The 21st of June is the longest day of the year, meaning there is lots of extra light and warmth.  This means your plants will hopefully grow madly.  It also means the weeds will too!

The top tips this month are:
  • Hoe your borders regularly to keep down weeds
  • Keep the lawns looking good by mowing once a week
  • Plant out those summer bedding plants
  • Pinch out the side shoots on tomato plants to ensure a good crop
  • Put out your summer hanging baskets, and plant out the summer bedding plants. Make sure they are well watered in and keep moist during dry weather.
  • Shade your greenhouse to keep it cool and stop plants getting burnt or overheated
  • Prune spring flowering shrubs where necessary
  • If you have a new pond, now is the time to stock it with suitable fish.
  • Stake tall or floppy plants, and train and tie beans and peas where necessary
  • Start to enjoy those lettuces, radishes, other salad vegetables and early potatoes
