Go Fish! Newmarket's first fishmonger since the 60's opens in The Guineas

Butchers, bakers, candlestick makers... all have been a dying breed over the past few decades (ok, well maybe not bakers, but the rhyme wouldn't have worked otherwise!)

Fishmongers have also suffered at the hands of the national supermarkets, with many unable to compete with the sheer buying power and lower prices that the big chains enjoy.

However, one husband and wife team is bucking the trend - having already built a great reputation and loyal customer base with their mobile van at Manchetts Budgens in Burwell, Tricia and Colin Birchan, ably supported by their sons, Ollie and Tom, have just opened 'Fish' in The Guineas Shopping Centre - the first fishmongers to trade in Newmarket in over half a century.

The Birchans were one of four overall winners of the recent 'Dragon's Den' style 'Strictly Come Newmarket', which was devised to encourage smaller, independent traders back into the town.

The winners received money towards shopfitting, free legal and business advice, a year's free banking, and best of all, a period in which they can trade absolutely rent-free.

So if you're into fish, you'll definitely want to visit 'Fish'. The fishmongers is stocked full of fresh fish and seafood, including salmon, swordfish, smoked and unsmoked mackerel, dressed Cromer crab, sardines, trout and prawns, as well as frozen fish, fresh vegetables, condiments and olives.

Support your local, independent retailers and Buy Local! Visit 'Fish' today at The Guineas Shopping Centre in Newmarket.
