For an excellent range of fresh fish delivered daily, look no further than Newmarket fishmongers, Fish.
Having already established a fantastic reputation and customer base with their mobile fish van at Manchetts Budgens in Burwell, Tricia and Colin Bircham have just opened their first fishmongers shop in The Guineas shopping centre in Newmarket.
Simply named, Fish, it is the first fishmongers in Newmarket for 40 years and serves a huge range of high quality, fresh fish, smoked fish and seafood five days a week.
The husband and wife team were one of four winners of local competition, Strictly Come Newmarket, a Dragon's Den-inspired incentive to fill the town's empty shops that was organised by the Newmarket Retailers' Association.
Having applied to be part of the competition, the owners of Fish put forward their business proposals and made their successful pitch in June. After learning that they were one of the winners, they settled on their new premises at The Guineas as the most suitable location for their shop.
Tricia and Colin won a variety of prizes, including a period in which they can trade rent-free, money towards shopfitting, free business and legal advice and a year's free banking.
The Bircham's will be working alongside their two sons, Ollie and Tom, selling walls and cabinets filled with fresh fish and shellfish, condiments, olives and freshly grown vegetables.
As Tricia explains, the amount of independent shops opening in Newmarket can only be a positive for the town:
"I think that people are wanting the smaller shops again... They like to shop locally. They use the butcher, the baker, myself, the local garage, the supermarket. Everything goes round in a circle."
Fish stocks a wide range of fish, including BBQ and summer season produce:
Fresh Fish Kebabs
Salmon
Tuna
Swordfish
Raw, Peeled or Cooked Prawns
Mackerel
Smoked Salmon
Dressed Cromer Crab
Sardines
Trout
Fish is open in The Guineas from Tuesday to Friday from 9am until 5pm; Saturdays from 8:30am until 3pm.
