Kennet Opera presents a rare chance to see Susannah by ‘the father of American opera’ Carlisle Floyd.
Kennet Opera presents a rare chance to see Susannah by ‘the father of American opera’ Carlisle Floyd. Based on the biblical tale of Susanna and the Elders, reset in 1950s rural Tennessee, it is the story of a young and innocent woman falsely accused of immorality by her village neighbours – god-fearing, revivalist, and also lascivious and vengeful. With a dramatic plot, reflecting the febrile atmosphere of the anti-communist witch hunts of its time, and packed with great music, this is not to be missed. The café will be open selling light refreshments and drinks. Performance length 2 hours with one interval.
