With festival season officially under way, a care home in Newbury is welcoming the community for fun-filled days of food and celebration. Care UK’s Winchcombe Place will open their doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection. On Saturday 8th August, from 12.30pm-2pm, visitors to Winchcombe Place can look forward to a variety of food stands from around the world, representing the cultures of the residents and team members. The home will be covered with decorations made of recycled materials and a recipe book, written by residents, will be available for guests to purchase. Resident Jenny Ilott said: “I am looking forward to the event and trying different foods. I used to love cooking for my sons, and my favourite meal was having turkey on Christmas Day, followed by bubbles and squeak on Boxing Day!” Claire Cullen, Home Manager at Winchcombe Place, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to our very own food festival! “We are part of a strong community here in Newbury, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.” The events are part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like. Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
