Why does my skin look dull and wrinkled?

Your skin is a living organ; many factors can affect skin health and how quickly it ages. Skin is exposed to many environmental factors pollutants & free radicals, lifestyle factors including smoking and drinking alcohol, but most importantly it is the exposure to the sun, which will cause the most significant damage. The sun emits UVA rays these are responsible for photoaging the skin which results in wrinkles, thickened leathery skin and age spots (brown pigmentation), the damage from the UVA is also thought to increase the cancer causing effects of UVB rays. Other effects such as central heating and air conditioning can also dehydrate the skin resulting dull skin and increasing fine lines and wrinkles. Treatments for the skin include prescription creams to help regulate the cell turnover of the skin, depigmenting prescription creams to help reduce age spots, micro needling treatments and a range of peels which can smooth the skin reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and give a brighter fresher appearance. It is essential that a broad spectrum UVA & UVB sunscreen is used after your moisturiser to prevent further damage and maintain the results from treatments.

What is a liquid facelift? Advances in non-surgical aesthetic treatments have meant that we can now delay the need to go under the surgeon’s knife. Collagen is produced in the skin, which provides its elasticity, as we age both the quality & quantity of the collagen decrease. Collagen plays a pivotal role in maintaining the skins structure therefore the formulation of new collagen fibers is essential for healthy firm skin. Decreased collagen and the decent or movement of fat pads cause the face to sag resulting in a flattening effect of the face and the development of jowls. There are different types of Dermal Fillers on the market your practitioner can advice which of them is the most suitable for your individual needs. The liquid facelift is a specialist filler which is administered over 3 to 4 treatments and can take up to 10 months for the full results to be seen, these results can last 2-3 years. The treatment is injected into the face and stimulates collagen production giving a natural plumping effect and can also be used to build structure for example cheek definition. A one vial treatment is then administered once per year to maintain results. The number of vials will be discussed individually at the consultation but usually one vial per decade of life (aged 40 = four vials) an added benefit of the treatment is that the skin will have a fresher, brighter appearance due to the increase in collagen production.
