The best places for lunch in and around Newark a week before Christmas.

  • The Wheatsheaf – Dry Doddington. This is an ideal country pub if you don’t want to travel far from Newark on a Sunday. It has recently been included in the renowned Michelin Pub Guide. I have eaten here with friends and the food is absolutely top notch.
  • Award-winning South Indian Thanal restaurant - The taste of something different. Authentic South Indian (Kerala) cuisine - savour the taste of one of the most beautiful regions of the world!
  • Rushtons Bistro in the heart of Newark on Stodman Street – recently mentioned in the Guardian, has some great reviews on Trip Advisor.
  • The Farndon Boathouse – On the river, log fires and a ‘cool’ ambience.
  • The Peacock Inn – nestled in the Vale of Belvoir. We were at Belvoir Castle on Friday for their last day of Christmas Fantasia. Nats and her choir from The Grantham Preparatory School were introduced by a fabulous character with an owl which gave the whole day a Hogwarts style atmosphere. The panoramic countryside in the vale, albeit white with frost, is absolutely breathtaking!
  • Feeling Peckish for home-made food
