Happy New Year Monmouth

I may have spoken too soon but we had a bright start to the New Year which has to be a good thing,  a whole week of not getting soaked when out with the dog is something I really appreciate.

I hope you all had a fantastic new year, but I wonder how many of us have already broken our resolutions; to eat less biscuits, to go the gym more often… the list goes on, and it can get quite depressing. My solution is simple, make wishes not resolutions, wishes are very hard to break.  Imagine it is New Year’s Eve on 2013 and you are looking at the list of all the things you have already achieved, it is a great feeling and I speak from experience that it actually works. New Year’s Eve 2009 I decided I would definitely move out of London to somewhere with beautiful countryside and water. Monmouth wasn’t even on my radar but through a bizarre series of incidences by September of that year I was living in this beautiful town.

On my wish list this year is to explore as much as I can of this stunning county we live in and to discover more of the history this town is steeped in. I find it amazing that as I tramp across Vauxhall fields I am treading on the same ground as Henry 3rd’s soldiers as they did battle with the Earl of Pembroke almost 900 years ago.

The future is important too and I am looking forward to the plans being unveiled for the new gateway to Monmouth between the two bridges. The design proposals should be ready for public viewing by early February.

My motto for the New Year? Do more, not less but above all enjoy yourselves!
