What happened to our banner? First it was there, then we blinked and it was gone!  But please don’t think you were dreaming – due to a small admin oversight, the banner location was double booked. But, by the time you read this, the banner will be back in business at the entrance to Church Street reminding us all to BUY LOCAL until the end of the June, including during the Olympic Flame day and Jubilee weekend, to provide the campaign with optimum publicity.

Dragons’ Den Monmouth? We didn’t receive any comments at all on this idea from last month. Does this mean that no-one is interested or that it was a bad idea? If no-one communicates with us, then we will never know whether this would be something that would benefit local independent businesses, so please contact us with your thoughts on this idea.

Independent’s Day? No, it’s not the film. But it is a national campaign on July 4th to promote local independent businesses in towns around the UK. The Monmouth Chamber is engaging with local businesses to find ways of making sure that as part of Independent’s Day 2012, we can all celebrate the benefits of our very own local retail businesses in town. More on this topic in next month’s edition.

Monmouth RETAIL – Ugo’s restaurant has now opened in the old Nine Yards premises and we wish them every success, as we need thriving businesses in town.  At the time of writing, it seems that Punitha’s who offered unique South Indian cuisine, have now gone out of business which is sad because we should always appreciate new and different businesses in town. Although we still have a small number of vacant premises, the good news is that there is always positive interest for new businesses to open up in Monmouth.

Peel2Save Monmouth: The holidays are over and it’s back to school, so Osbaston CIW School are on a mission to promote the use of Peel2Save Monmouth card  for ‘The Big IT Project’, their fund-raising project to raise over £1500 over the next 9 months to improve the information technology equipment used by the children and teachers. So PLEASE, if you would like to help the school reach their target AND at the same time save money with 64 offers from 25 local Monmouth businesses, then don’t forget to buy your Peel2Save Monmouth card. You can contact Louise Uttley on 07810 822871 to find out how.
