Buy Local Buy Monmouth
Have you noticed the campaign yet?

Publicity is essential to encourage people’s buy-in to the campaign goals. So hopefully you will have noticed the large banner to ensure that we all remember to ‘Buy Local’. It will be there for 3 months, including during the Olympic Flame day and Jubilee weekend, to provide the campaign with optimum publicity, perhaps even nationally!

Remember the ’14 days of love’ initiative from last month? Here are the winners of the ‘Best Loved Businesses in Monmouth 2012’ receiving their certificates from Jacky of The Best of Monmouth. From left to right: Misbah Tandoori, Jewel Balti and The Coach House. Well done to everyone who worked so hard during the campaign. We also plan to run ’14 days of love 2013’, and the good news is that you can already vote for your most loved local businesses by going to www.thebestof.co.uk/monmouth for your recommendation to be counted.

Should we have our own Dragons’ Den approach in Monmouth? We have lots of small businesses working hard to be successful, and we would expect to have a range of   successful business people who might be able to assist as mentors. We would like to assess whether this is something that would benefit local independent businesses, so if you are able to help with some business advice or indeed if you need some help with your business, then please let us know.

Monmouth RETAIL – Great News! It seems that there is a new business preparing Nine Yards for moving in and being a very significant premises this is excellent news. Also the ‘Tea Shop’ in Monnow Street is opening shortly and David Christopher, the Jewellers, are preparing to move across the road to their new premises.  We do still have a small number of vacant premises, but the good news is that there is positive interest for new businesses to open up in Monmouth.

Peel2Save Monmouth! The great news is that Osbaston CIW School have now achieved their goal of raising £2000 for their new outdoor school-room. So, the focus of their campaign has moved on to ‘The Big IT One’; fund-raising of £1500 over the next 9 months to improve the information technology equipment used by the children and teachers. So PLEASE, if you want to help the school reach their new target AND at the same time save money (card value in excess of £400) with 64 offers from 25 local Monmouth businesses, then if you are a parent please send back that critical order form, otherwise you can contact the school on 01600 775070 to buy your own Peel2Save Monmouth card. DON’T MISS OUT as the Peel2Save Monmouth voucher cards will only be valid until the end of 2012! If you are aware of a local school, club, association or charity who NEED TO RAISE FUNDS for a project or just to survive, please let us know, as the sale of the card is a real ‘WIN WIN WIN’ for local people, businesses and good causes.

Buy Local Buy Monmouth is an initiative brought to you by the Monmouth Chamber of Trade and The Best of Monmouth.  If you have any ideas, comments or suggestions, then please contact us.
