Monmouthpedia will be the first Wikipedia project to cover a whole town, creating articles on interesting and notable places, people, artefacts, flora, fauna and other things in Monmouth in as many languages as possible including Welsh. We would love for the business owners in town to be involved in the project.

One way you can participate is take part in the professions trail (a working title) by displaying free Qrpedia code stickers in the window of your shop. A QR code is a kind of bar code your phone can read through it's camera which takes you to a Wikipedia page using free software. The codes will be individual to each business showing the Wikipedia article of the history of your profession (e.g bookseller, baker, etc) and possibly a code of your products (e.g books, bread, meat etc). The QRpedia system was used at Derby Museum, you can watch a video explaining it at http://vimeo.com/28583289

An example of the sticker is shown aabove, we are unsure what colours will be used yet, if you have any suggestions please let me know. They will be made of the easy to peel off window sticker material and be around 20cm by 7cm.

I think this project will really make Monmouth stand out from other towns, we would be the first in the world to do it, I think it has a good chance of increasing tourism which would increase the custom to the businesses in town.

If you would like to get the free stickers, know more about the project or be involved please email me at mrjohncummings@gmail.com call me on 07989 300 461 or visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/MonmouthpediA

I'm happy to teach people how to use Wikipedia if they would like to be involved in writing articles or taking or donating photos.

Note: John was interviewed on BBC Radio 4's "You & Yours" programme on 3/1/2012. Catch it on iPlayer.
