This is the third Friday lunch time visit I have made and overall the food has been a reasonable quality and the overall ambience is good. However, each time I have been with a small group of people and apart from one other couple we have been the only ones in the Restaurant. With this in mind, it still took an hour to serve us our main course. We did not have starters and all had opted for salads or sandwiches but some ordered crab cake salad which was apparently the cause of the delay. I ordered an avocado and salmon salad with marie rose sauce. This came without the sauce and at £8.50 was significantly over priced. I would expect a much more substantial salad and a speedier delivery.
In conclusion, it is not a place to choose for a light and quick business lunch - the timing is too unreliable. Although the local village residents are resolutely trying to use this restaurant in order to keep the facility going, most items are still too over priced for the style and service offered.I wish I could be more positive as there is so much potential. The best advice I can offer anyone is to stick to the hot main course lunch menu as this is slightly better value. Sadly, I will not be returning unless the pricing structure is reviewed. There are so many other local restaurants that offer much more on the plate and better quality food for less money.

We went for dinner with friends at their recommendation. The décor was lovely and the service was very food, prompt but not rushed they also gave us a choice of table.
The wine choice was ok not huge but we had a nice rose, there was only a choice of two tap beers.
The menu looked good and we had a mixture of the scallops and the duck stir fry, none of the portions were big but you expect that for starters. Main course I had the cheese burger and the chunky chips are the ones that are like roast potatoes but in chip format. The cheese was presented on a separate plate after the burger arrived which felt like they had forgotten to add it on.
The burger is served on the plate with a bucket of chips and some pea shoots, so it felt a bit ‘empty’. The salmon looked lovely but the pork dish was very small what you would expect from a fine dining establishment not a pub/restaurant.
We ordered desert and 3 of us had the honeycomb desert. It was two pieces each one would have fitted onto a desert spoon so two, max four mouthfuls which was very disappointing.
Overall the food was good just not enough of it for the cost.

I have driven past this place hundreds of time. I remember it when it was a village pub.
It has undergone a major transformation into a wine bar/restaurant.I was on my way to another restaurant but thought we would give it a try so in we went not knowing what to expect.
First impression was that this was smart and chic without any hint of pomposity. We were warmly welcomed.
The decor is very nice, exposed brickwork and beams. The music lighting and ambiance created a very welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.
In particular,I was impressed by the service. We didn't feel rushed. The timing was spot on. In particular I commend our waiter a young guy with a beard who I thought was polite efficient and very personable. Note to management.....look after quality staff.
The crab cake starter was excellent. Well seasoned and tasted beautifully of crab.I had pork, my partner had roast beef. I thought it all tasted very good indeed. The crackling was naughty but very nice! Gravy had real depth of flavour. We chose a bottle of Pinot Grigio blush which was lovely.
The general ambiance created a very conducive way to have Sunday lunch.
The quality of the menu/wine list covers was excellent creating a professional feel that I have not seen in some so called "top notch" London restaurants. The content of the menus ,whether dinner, lunch or pre theatre (Kilworth House is just down the road) was varied but not to the point that they promised a long list of selections but failing to deliver on 70% of them They have the balance just about right.
The wine list had an interesting broad selection of wines worthy of sampling at prices which were broadly in line with what one would expect.
Toilets were very clean
In summary ,we thoroughly enjoyed our delicious Sunday lunch in very pleasant surroundings served by a very efficient waiter at a sensible price. We will make another visit only next time not on a Sunday to sample other menus and update the review. If these standards are maintained, and with proper and effective marketing, this establishment has all the ingredients to flourish.

Rainy Thursday night heading for our hotel after a long day and feeling hungry, we sighted a sign for the White Lion. A wet dash from the car park into the foyer revealed it was "Pie and Pud" night. 'Hmmm" we thought, "maybe the menu will reveal real food". To our surprise when we read the menu, the pies sounded really good. Our hardest decision was whether we would choose the chicken pie or mushroom pie. Next surprise, the serve included one of each. And, how good they were! Accompanied by tasty vegetables (not the waterlogged, tasteless stuff you get served in most pub meals) the pies were delicious. Choice of deserts ... Yum! Wines and beers offered also excellent.
Great food, great service, lovely surroundings, reasonable price, what's not to love?Thank you White Lion, we can't wait for our next trip to UK. When we do, we will make it a point to visit you again.

Had a wonderful evening with fantastic food and lovely helpful staff! So nice to see a mother and daughter working hard together to realise their dream and making a great success of it too! Will definitely be recommending it to all my friends and family.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch here. Very tasteful decor and friendly, efficient service. The food was excellent and the staff served us quickly knowing that we were booked to go to the outdoor theatre nearby.

We went on pie night and had a great meal, I was a little unsure if it would be a locals pub but this could not be further from what we found - GREAT décor, really friendly service and a fantastic meal - I would very much recommend a visit

Found this place just off the main highway, and pleased we did. We had three different meals and they were all delicious. Staff pleasant and friendly. Wonderful décor.

The White Lion deserves to have more diners mid-week because it's very smart and comfortable with very good service and food. We went back on Friday lunchtime and it was the same story, hardly anybody there. I guess it's just a matter of people getting to know that the old pub has been transformed on all fronts - except that a good pint can still be had, alongside the wines and food.

tremendous food here last night at pie & pud night. Lovely presentation, great flavours, friendly staff, really nice surroundings. Our first visit to this establishment and wont be our last as the normal menu also looked tempting, would recommend to others for sure. Glad I didn't read the negative reviews on here earlier this year but can only put it down to the fact that their chef left them in the lurch early on and they had relief chefs, now they clearly have a great chef who I hope sticks around. To all those that had a negative experience give it another try!!

Met friends here before going onto the Kilworth Theatre and what a treat. This is a very modern contemporary Bar/Restaurant with a comfortable seating area and dining areas that are well decorated and furnished. Menu choice of fine dining or pre theatre but then was told that it was pie night, we were sold. Two types of pie, mash and veg followed by a dessert. Food was cooked, presented well and tasty and all at a very reasonable price.

On the spur of the moment we booked here for Sunday lunch as it is very close to home. The first time we had been since it had been reopened.
I had the cheese souffle which was excellent and the roast pork. Both were delicious. My husband had wild mushroom soup and roast beef and thought they were very good.
They have a good selection of wines at reasonable pricesI can't comment on the puddings as we couldn't manage those but maybe next time The service was efficient and friendly.
Would we recommend to friends? Yes we have already done so!

Booked for a business lunch with the boss and work colleagues. I had the crab cakes with sweet chilli dressing and hand cooked chips - It was absolutely superb although the boss though the portion was too small compared to the person who had the fish and chips. However, It was perfect for the rest of us and the deserts were scrummy. The surroundings are contemporary and very tasteful whilst retaining the old charm and character. Will definitely visit again with family

We walked from Welford to South Kikworth on a recent hot day and came across this pub, admittedly I had driven past here numerous times meaning to pop in. I was impressed as soon as we walked in, modern contemporary decor, a smiling barman and diners eating what looked like delicious food. We had not planned on eating but soon found ourselves tucking into fish and chips which was presented beautifully and very tasty. We saved room for desert and had a chat with the owner who was warm, friendly and welcoming , we shall be back , if you have not been, or like me, drive past with intention of taking a look, do it

Stopped for lunch here after a gliding experience at Husbands Bosworth. It looked lovely inside but we sat out in the sunshine in the small courtyard enjoying our crab cakes and salad - delicious! The courtyard could do with a bit more greenery - a couple of tubs and hanging baskets - but the place has only just been done up so I'm sure that will come in time. Friendly helpful service too.

We visited the White Lion tonight to celibrate our sister in laws 49 birthday. I think it's important that I get that in as I know it'll annoy her :)
The main meal, beer and wine was lovely we had a slight hiccuping with pudding but it was handled beautifully and I'd give them five stars for the public relations and customer service.
The building itself has been very nicely decorated, it's fashionable inside, clean crisp yet still friendly.
All in all its very nice and the owners have clearly worked hard to build something nice.
I'd be happy to recommend the White Lion

We were recommended the White Lion by friends and decided to try it on Saturday evening. The work carried out has been done well and the restaurant is comfortable and not big. There is a comfortable seating area and bar too. The menu was great, varied but quite small which we were pleased to see. The choice of fish, lamb, chicken and vegetarian was all interesting and well prepared by the chef: not out of the microwave!!! We all (3 of us) had different dishes, tried each one and were really impressed. A bit different to the usual, certainly not pub food! I hope the menu stays small but varied and we will certainly visit again. We had red and white wine, both very good.

Safari Supper club - - 18 people
I always write to members of our group afterwards to ascertain what they thought about the evening and if there is anything that can be done to improve our eating out experiences.
Here are the thoughts from our group for you to digest - none of it has been doctored just copied and pasted... Hope you like.
Many thanks for another superb evening. I had the crispy duck, salmon salad and citrus posset. All were delicious and beautifully presented and served by the kind and courteous staff who couldn’t have been more helpful. Guess by the decibels everyone enjoyed themselves as much as me.
I enjoyed the evening from start to finish. The venue was excellent and very easy to find. The service, food and general ambience were also excellent. I can’t find anything to pick fault with. Definitely think we should go back there again.
As always, it was a lovely evening. Thank you for arranging. Company and meal excellent. The only, maybe, a very slight criticism would be that maybe a dish per table of either vegetables or salad might have been nice with the main course.
We had a splendid evening . The company was great and made a super atmosphere .
The food really was excellent , and I thought that the contents of the dishes were different to the usual pub grub .There was a distinct fusion feel about the food which we enjoyed .
Thank you for your organisation once again.
Thank you for arranging last night. I thought the place was lovely, a very stylish refurbishment and very welcoming; I would be very happy to go back! The food was delicious but the citrus posset, although a lovely texture did not have much of a citrus tang. I thought the menu choices were most appetising and did appreciate the bread and dipping oil/balsamic.
A great evening with super company as always.
Once again thank you for organising another good night. The food was very nice both of us really enjoyed the food especially the crab ball starter.
It did seem a little noisier than normal, maybe because the room was smaller.Overall still a most enjoyable night.
Another excellent evening. Food and company very good. I agree it was a bit noisy but that was our fault! I would be happy to go there again, in fact I might before my trip to the theatre at Kilworth House next month.
Thank you so much for arranging last night's Safari Supper. Very enjoyable. Answers to your questions--Venue good, service good, food good. My only comment would be to have a little more room between the tables another time, but a very good evening.
Another good night! Twice the only chap with five ladies; what could be better?
Initially, I thought that room might be too small to accommodate us and that it would also be too noisy. The former actually made the evening more intimate but I did find conversation difficult (perhaps it was just no one would speak to me?) I enjoyed the food as I think most people did although I obviously had less than anyone else: ask Barbara about our (Christine and I) experience at The Bakers recently.
The service was good and the girls did will given the cramped space in which they had to operate. They were friendly and efficient. Price was a little high but acceptable.
I would recommend that you add this venue to your list.
My own thoughts are that your establishment is extremely welcoming and stylish and the room you provided was excellent - perfect for our party. Your staff were always helpful and courteous. I know we made a lot of noise - I do hope it didn't detract others that were dining in the other part of The White Lion.
As for the food, thank you for providing the bread and oil/balsamic vinegar nibbles, this is always a good ice breaker for new members and helped get the evening off to a good start. My food was delicious except for the citrus posset which I found lacked zest and the lemon shortbread biscuit wasn't terrible lemony! Perhaps having had the very tasty risotto my tastebuds needed zapping again! My partner choose well and thought it was all very delicious - especially the salmon and avocado salad and the chocolate brownie with the clotted cream. All beautifully presented. Thank you once again.
Hope you find the above helpful/interesting and as you can see we all enjoyed the evening very much which is mostly down to you and your staff. If we are allowed back we would like to do this all over again at some future date - what do you think? Would you be happy if we returned?

I was taking my son home from Nottingham university on the busiest summer weekend for traffic. We decided to come off the M1 for lunch rather than brave the service stations. Just 4 miles east of Junction 20 we stopped at the White Lion. My son was a touch scruffy for the White linen tablecloths but we felt very relaxed. The service from the young couple there was outstanding and we were very happy to be far away from the crowds. We both had just a main course (ham, egg and chips) but it was beautifully presented, delicious and reasonably priced.

Found this fabulous restaurant on a dreary return trip home from Silverstone and what a gem. It has been beautifully renovated in style and is sparking clean. We were greeted by friendly and competent staff and quickly served a delightful glass of wine. The menu is good, plenty of choice and reasonable price. My starter of crab cakes was divine and looked a picture. The food is high quality, served hot and beautifully presented. Well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity and even though we live miles away if we were in the area again we would certainly go back. Just lovely.

We made our first visit to the White Lion last night and were not disappointed at all! Due to its location and circumstances, we took advantage of the very reasonably priced Pre-theatre menu. The place has been very tastefully renovated from a conventional pub into a very tasteful restaurant. It is situated on the main Market Harborough/Lutterworth road, so is easy to find with plenty of parking.
The staff are very welcoming and attentive. The food was beautifully presented and was very enjoyable. The wine list is very varied with choices to suit all budgets.
We are very pleased that we found such a gem of a place. Despite not being very local to us, we will definitely be going back. Excellent!

We, party of six, arrived in the pooring rain to be greated by a warm clean atmosphere lovely decor and furnishings. Staff were friendly and just the right amount of attentiveness. We all thoroughly enjoyed the food taste quality and presentation, portion size right so to price point. Wouldn't normally recommend anywhere but no hesitation in doing so deserves to be a success. Looking forward to next time.

My partner and I have lived in Husbands Bosworth for just over 18 months and always talked about walking down to the white lion but only just got round to it this summer. It was definitely worth the walk down! The food was delicious and they have a large selection of wine to choose from (we ended up trying three!). The service was excellent with staff being so polite and pleasant with a little bit of banter that made us laugh! Will definitely be visiting again soon. Thank you for a lovely dining experience

My wife and I were looking for somewhere nice to celebrate an anniversary. We hadn't been to The White Lion before (to eat) but we had popped in just before Christmas for a drink. It was incredibly busy then, I guess it was party time. This time it was nicely buzzy without feeling overcrowded.
The place has been done out very nicely since the relaunch and the lighting is perfect (so many places are incapable of this simple task) creating a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. We didn't order a starter, so I can't comment on those, but the steaks we had were absolutely perfect, and the chunky chips were wonderful too. I ordered a peppercorn sauce with my fillet, it was unusual, as it was more like an onion gravy with peppercorns in it rather than the usual creamy type, but actually it was probably nicer than a lot of peppercorn sauces I've had, and it was hot too, which makes a nice change!
For pudding I had the brownie, which surprisingly was not heated as they usually are, but was still very nice. While my wife had the meringue/ice cream/strawberry mixture which she said was absolutely lovely. After the meal we had a chat with the landlady Carley who was very friendly and we congratulated her on an excellent restaurant, with great staff. We thoroughly recommend this to everyone.

Place looks very smart inside. Table for 2, 3 courses. All tasted delightful and well presented. Each course cost £2 more than your standard place but was well worth it. Wine very good. Lovely staff. Only issues... and I'm fussy... 1.Small toilet that didn't fit the stylishness of the rest of the place . 2. It's used as a pub as well (locals?) so there was a bizarre mix of smartly dressed diners eating, whist sorts/trainers/t shirt wearing drinkers were stood by their tables having a few pints.. Just felt a bit weird. We were away from them so didn't spoil it. Try and book in the back room.
Meet The Team At The White Lion, North Kilworth 19/08/2019
Have you been to the White Lion Pub in North Kilworth recently? It no longer carries the elite 'wine bar and formal dining image', as it's now back to being just a great 'country pub' for the local community...
