Police warning over distraction thefts

Police have received reports of elderly women being approached by two women claiming they are from abroad and that they are lost.

Whilst one of the women shows the victim a map the other steals property from the victims’ handbag.

The most recent incident took place in Meynell Road in Leicester at about 4pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday October 20) when the 69-year-old victim was approached by two women asking for directions.

They claimed they were French and were lost. One of the women showed the victim a map whilst the other stole a purse from the victim’s handbag.
Two other similar incidents have been reported to have taken place in Loughborough in Brisco Avenue and Westfield Drive.
