Over Saturday and Sunday 1st and 2nd November, (a week earlier this year due to the availability of a match referee) the Leicestershire Team attended the 33rd Championships – this being the 9th year we have taken part.
It is often said that August can be wet and so it proved to be at the start of the day of our Big Bike Ride. However we had blue sky and scattered clouds during the event allowing us to exceed last year’s figure of those who took part giving us 420 cyclists who rode one of the four courses offered – 11, 23, 39 or 62 miles.
Athletic were all on for causing the upset of the season when, on 65 minutes, Danny Laywood, the league’s leading scorer, stepped up to what could have been a two-nil advantage against previously unbeaten Barrow Town.
