Mayor's Abseil Raises Thousands of Pounds

A rather breezy and showery Saturday morning saw Lutterworth Town Mayor, Tony Hirons, preparing for his day of abseils down St Mary's Church to raise money for the Mayor's Appeal 2011/12.

During the course of the day, many people had booked a slot to take part and help to raise funds, but Tony was 'first man down' at 10am. Following a heavy shower, the sun was shining as Tony ascended the church tower in preparation for his descent.

We stayed firmly on the ground to watch, as Tony climbed over the ledge and was then held (rather cruelly, we thought!) for several minutes hanging on while local press photographer Andrew Carpenter took photos!

The descent then went well and Tony looked very relieved to be back on terra firma - see the abseil and his reaction at the bottom in our video on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/thebestoflutterworth

The final total raised is still to be confirmed, but Tony believes it is somewhere between £1,700-£2,000 - fantastic result!

Well done Tony!!
