Countryside Alliance Awards - the Rural Oscars!
5th October 2010

The annual Countryside Alliance Awards are the chance for those of us who live and work in rural areas to highlight the skills, produce, heritage and enterprise of the people who work so hard to make our countryside flourish.

Nominations are currently being sought for the 6th annual awards, so, do you have a local village store or post office that's the hub of your local community?   How about a local butcher who cares about animal welfare and traditonal skills? Or do you know a traditional business that deserves a big pat on the back?

If so, now's the time to get your nominations in! You have till October 22nd to nominate your local hero and nominations are made here: www.countrysideallianceawards.co.uk

There are several different categories, so take a look and name your favourite. My nomination is going to Gilmorton Village Store - always at the heart of the village, supporting the community and its events, and owner Alison always doing something to raise money for a worthy cause. Quite apart from the fact that they stock a fantastic range of food worthy of any upmarket deli, most of it locally produced!

I think this is a great opportunity to recognise our local community stores - so get voting!
