Athletic Ladies lift seasons first Silverware

Finals are always a bit special and in front of a large crowd on a near perfect Holmes park pitch Athletic Ladies were not about to ruin the party. With a 100% record in all competitions this season Athletic started in emphatic style when Helen Busby latched onto a good through ball and easily beat the keeper with a low drive; Busby went onto score three more in her tally of four and rightly earn the MOM trophy. Further goals from captain Neely Simons, Lucy O’Byrne, Ria Stevens, Neely Simons, Kate Dennison, Kayleigh Ball.

Athletic also had three junior mascots for the day to remember: Evie Wilson daughter of sponsor John from Blue Whale logistics, Phoebe Brindley and Lindsay Scott.


Great week for Athletic:

16 goals, 2 semi finals and in the race for league has left Athletic in a great position for some silverware and all in a week.  Saturdays long trip to Cottesmore who by there own standards are struggling at this level was business as usual with goals from Ben Laxton, Jarrod Pickering, Mark English (the clubs 500th senior league goal), Andy Cross and Danny Laywood in a five nil result.

 

Next Saturday Athletic face there toughest opponents at Hall Park when league favourites Aylestone Park are the visitors and with games in hand can go top.  

 

Athletic Reserves went top of the combination with a one nil result over Birstall United. Liam Barrett did the damage with a well taken free kick that left the keeper helpless.

Athletic midweek floodlit youth team under were also on the goal route when they returned to the top three with an 8 – 1 thrashing of Saffron Dynamo.
