The smash-hit musical with brains, heart and courage, 'The Wizard of Oz' will follow the path to Lowestoft in a fortnight.

The show is the fourth major production by the Lowestoft-based B&B Theatre Company, which was set up to give young people in Waveney a showcase for their talents in performing arts.

As the theatre company added the finishing touches to its latest production this week, it received news that last years production of Peter Pan the Musical has been shortlisted for the NODA Best Youth Group Production.

Ryan Holt, Company Chairman & Show Producer said 'We are very excited to have been shortlisted and would like to thank everyone for there support, it means a lot to us'. Having won plaudits for its previous three shows Oliver!, Annie & Peter Pan, the group will be back on stage this time at The Players Theatre (The Bethel) on Battery Green Rd, Lowestoft to stage its latest production which has been lined up for a eight-performance run, starting on April 10th.

Dorothy Gales of Kansas, like so many girls of her age, dreams what lies over the rainbow. One day, a twister hits her farm and carries her away to the magical land of Oz. The production is being directed by Alfie Bailey, Musical Director Derek Mill along with chorographer Charlotte Wood, with a cast of 50 young people from across Waveney.

Sharing the leading role of Dorothy is 13-year old Jessica Kingsley of Harebell Way, Lowestoft & 15-year old Brooke Smith of Lowestoft Rd, Worlingham. Jessica who attends Benjamin Britten High School said 'I feel so grateful to be playing the role of Dorothy. The past few months have been amazing, rehearsing for such a magical show with a large cast of talented young people from across Waveney'.

The theatre company urged people to book soon as news of pre-ticket sales have been very good with some performances nearly sold out. Come and join Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tinman and the Cowardly Lion along with Toto as they travel through the world of Dorothy's imagination.

  • The Wizard of Oz runs from Thursday April 10 to Saturday April 19 at The Players Theatre, Lowestoft. Tickets are available via the box office 01502 770020 or online at www.playerstheatre.info
