The dedication and courage of volunteer lifeboatmen will be marked on Saturday 26th January when Lowestoft Lifeboat fundraisers and crew will host the annual SOS day on behalf of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) as part of its SOS - Save Our Souls - campaign.

In Lowestoft the lifeboat station on the South Pier will open as part of the event from 10.30am until 3pm, when people will have the chance to meet the crew and, subject to operational requirements, look around the lifeboat.

Meanwhile visitors will be able to enjoy a range of refreshments and visit the gift shop where a variety of items including half-price RNLI Christmas cards, diaries and calendars will also be on sale.

Josie Moore, chairman of the Lowestoft RNLI fundraisers committee, said "SOS Day is all about having fun and raising funds when, on the last Saturday in January, many of the lifeboat stations and RNLI supporters around the UK and Ireland hold lots of fun events. We will have games and a tombola for our visitors’ entertainment - as well as the opportunity to help to fill the shapes of the three letters SOS with coins".

Supporting SOS Day on Saturday here in Lowestoft will help keep our lifeboat crew trained and equipped for the year ahead, to enable them to continue to save the lives of others.
