Serves 6

 

  • 1 bottle red wine
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 star anise
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 4 slices lemon
  • ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­50g brown sugar

 

On The Hob

  1. Put all the ingredients into a large pan. Bring to just below boiling, but do not let boil.
  2. Turn the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes to an hour.
  3. Ladle the wine into glasses and serve with a slice of the soaked orange in with it.

 

In the Slow Cooker

 

  1. Turn the heat to high and place all the ingredients into the pot. Heat for 20 minutes, ensuring it does not boil.
  2. Turn the heat to low and leave it for at least 2 hours.
  3. Ladle the wine into glasses and serve with a slice of the soaked orange in with it.

 

Some recipes add brandy to it to strengthen the taste.
