Lights Out in Lowestoft
4th August 2011

After last night's power cut effecting most of Lowestoft and the surrounding areas, it was interesting to see various posts on social media sites this morning and also chatting to local businesses....it's surprising how just a few hours without power can impact upon us!..

On a personal level, I was rehearsing with the cast of The Lowestoft Players forthcoming production of 'Our House' at the Bethel. We survived until about 9.30pm using torches and a couple of lanterns which had been used in the last pantomime (you never know when these things might come in useful!). The drive home was eerie (not to mention rather nerve wracking due to the lack of traffic lights!) and the first thing I did when I got home, after searching out some candles, was to switch on the kettle for a cuppa! (call it a senior moment!!!!)

A friend of mine posted a message on facebook saying that it was great sitting in rather cosy candlelit room with her son entertaining her on the piano... and when the power was eventually restored, they decided to turn the TV off anyway and carry on as they were!

Not such a rosy story from The Blue Boar restaurant in Oulton when we popped in to present them with their 'BestofLowestoft' certificate this morning.... They  continued to serve customers as best they could and then had to tot up the bill using a pocket calculator! All the clean up from the night before had to be done this morning before they opened!

I also noticed, there was a surge of bingo players leaving the 'Beacon' last night... what happens if you're in the middle of a crucial game???

Ahh, it's a good job it doesn't happen every day..... Have you got your own story to tell about this or an amusing observation? We'd love to hear from you.
