The Eurofighter Typhoon has been in the news recently when the RAF announced that four of the jets will be on standby to intercept any 'rogue' aircraft intent on causing carnage at the 2012 London Olympics.

So the organisers of the Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival were even more delighted when they were told that a Typhoon had also been allocated to thrill the crowds with displays at their Airshow

After a three year absence from Lowestoft during which Typhoons had operational commitments including fighting in battle for the first time in Libya, the £125 million state-of-the-art jet will be back to give its breath-taking display on both days of the Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June.

It will be a busy weekend for Typhoon Display pilot Squadron Leader Scott who is based at RAF Leuchars in Scotland. He will give displays at Lowestoft and at RAF Marham Families Day on Saturday then return to give another display at Lowestoft on Sunday before flying to the Armed Forces Day at Cleethorpes.

Airshow managing director Paul Bayfield said "when the supersonic Typhoon was last at Lowestoft in 2008, the many thousands of people lining the promenade and beach were spell-bound by its awesome display and we are really excited that we will have it in our programme this year.

He added "I am confident that the line-up of aerial displays put together by our new Flying Display Director Tim Miller will be second to none. With aircraft ranging from the historic to the spectacular, there should be something for everyone to enjoy.

I am particularly pleased that the new seven aircraft formation of the Red Arrows, the world's premier aerobatic team, will be here for both days. It is also great to be able to welcome back the B17-Sally B, the crowd pleasing Wing Walkers and the breath-taking Red Bull Matador aerobatic team.

Full details of all aircraft taking part and their scheduled appearance times will only be available in the new look programme. The expectation is that all our visitors coming to see this fantastic Airshow will be happy to pay a £3.00 fee per person and in return will be given a 60 page programme packed with information but also including over £170 of money saving vouchers inside!"

As previously announced other RAF displays will include the ever popular Battle of Britain Memorial flight featuring the Dakota, Hurricane and Spitfire, a Hawk, Tucano, King Air and Tornado. The Falcons Free Fall Parachute team will also be dropping into the town for the first time in many years.

And visitors to thebestof Lowestoft stand (find us near the Claremont Pier) can also help raise funds to guarantee next years Lowestoft Airshow. We'll be selling Peel2Save cards that have 64 money saving stickers for great Lowestoft businesses totalling over £400. And the cards are yours for just £10 each, with at least £5 from each card sold raising funds to keep the Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival flying high!
