A PAIR of vases bought by a Staffordshire mum for just €8 at a Spanish car boot sale are set to sell at auction in Lichfield for hundreds of pounds. Christine Rehm, 65, from Stapenhill, bought the iridescent glassware on a whim about five years ago when she and husband Manfred, 69, were living near Alicante. But little did she realise that the pretty vases – secured for the equivalent of about £7 today – are actually pair of Art Nouveau pieces dating back to 1900 by renowned European manufacturer Loetz.
Caroline and I have been wined and dined very generously and hospitably these past two months. It has been good to share memories of our time in Lichfield. Everyone has been kind and appreciative. The unheated certified 4.16ct Burmese sapphire and diamond ring went under the hammer for £11,000 on Monday, March 27. The preceding lot – a pair of early 20th-century sapphire and diamond earrings featuring unheated certified sapphires totaling 5.60ct, one Burmese (now Myanmar) and the other from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) – sold at £6,800.
Works to restore the badly damaged central spire at Lichfield Cathedral have begun thanks to funding received from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The 12-month project totaling almost £1m aims to restore the structure, reopen the space to visitors, and explore what the iconic landmark means to its local residents.

The Force is strong with The Collectors Sale on Wednesday, March 29, which features the original Kenner and Palitoy figures with accessories in sealed blister packs plus other boxed vintage Star Wars toys. The collection, which is expected to exceed £5,000, includes around 50 original figures in sealed blister packs, 28 of which are cataloged as single lots including Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Boba Fett, and Yoda. There are also three ‘Mail-away’ Boba Fett figures, which would arrive in plain packaging and have been ordered through the post via a special offer.
