This review isn't for those who have any personal or family connection to a particular armed conflict, or to those who are simply interested in such conflicts, If that's you, you'll need no persuasion to visit. This review is for everyone else.

Seriously, why haven't you been yet? This Memorial Arboretum is absolutely faultless. It is vast (150 acres) but the clever design means that for the most part it feels quite intimate with lots of little groves, quiet paths and out-of-the way woodland. To cover it all at a leisurely pace, plus have a break for a spot of lunch, you'd need around 3-4 hours I think. Calmness, trees, tranquility, groves, hedges, trees, paths, greenery, peace, trees. You will love it just for being among it all.

The memorials. My word - there are hundreds of them, in broad, vague 'zones' (such as 'The Far East' or 'The Navy') dedicating and remembering just about every branch and unit of the armed forces you can think of, plus many that you have never considered. The memorials vary from simple rock plinths to huge inscribed walls, from grand statues of figures to smaller designs, from familiar insignia and motifs to abstract designs and sculptures. Also, there are countless small plaques with individuals' names on, dotted among the trees. Most of the memorials have background information on the unit, and a few have longer histories, too. Some memorials are very thought-provoking. One at least will probably make you feel like weeping.

But there is something extra-special about the site, I think, and something that people may not realise. This isn't just a memorial to 'soldiers' - it's our (National) memorial site for many other groups of people who have died - for example, those in the emergency services, victims of terrorism abroad, victims of car crashes, and children who have died too young in hospital. I think this is the most special thing about the Arboretum - it serves as a focal point for people grieving for so many reasons. It must, surely, help just a little? And I imagine the list of memorials for different groups will increase as time goes on.

What a fortunate nation we are to have such a place, how lucky we are to have the creative minds behind it! I can't imagine that any other country has done it as well as we have (if at all). If you were serving in the armed forces (in particular) I hope you would never feel that you would be forgotten if you lost you life for your country. Nobody should ever suspect that 'people didn't care'. This Arboretum is evidence that we DO care and we WON'T forget.

A quiet calm place to remember and reflect, those lost in wars, conflicts and the coming together of nations. I was very moved by the Japanese POW close to tears.

Really felt blessed to see the great work done to remember the fallen. Great to see my own regiment represented along with the regiments it’s was formed from. I would have liked to see a specific memorial to the Royal Armoured Corps but then for all I know I missed it.

My wife and I attended the D-Day 77 Memorial at the NMA, and it was my first visit. The staff and the assistance they gave from entering to exit was second to none. The grounds and memorials are amazing and when I needed to find one specific the guides helped me find it. You need a good three hours plus here as there is so much to see. Truly special. I will return.

An absolutely amazing, beautiful, tranquil and of course, very poignant place! I thoroughly recommend a visit.

We'd of course heard of the memorial park being mentioned in the media on many occasions and being in the area for the weekend, thought we'd take the opportunity to call in. It requires a pre-booking time-slot for the car-park and a £4 charge but entry is free and once in you can stay for as long as you like. We arrived 3 hours after our time slot but it was not a problem.

Our visit was on a hot Saturday afternoon in early June. The car-park was full but the centre and park was not in any way crowded. Plenty of space to move around both indoors and out and many areas where you can sit quietly without a sole around.

The memorials themselves and the centre-piece, the memorial wall/s, obelisk and statues are a sight to behold! The rows and rows of names of people lost during the various wars and conflicts over the years, is just breathtaking.

We didn't speak to assistants around but am told that they are very friendly and informative, providing further detail and background information to the visuals.

There is a gift shop and toilets etc but the queue to the coffee-shop / ice creams, was somewhat slow and so we declined. I believe that there is normally an inside restaurant available as well.

Overall, a very, very pleasant experience. DEFINITELY worth visiting.
