Tapping to success

Leeds Amateur Operatic Society searched for tap dancers to help perform the song and dance extravaganza 42nd Street, calling out to local dance schools across the region.

Four of the cast members all came from the same dance studio, The Dance Studio Leeds and had also previously performed other shows with Laos. Fiona Lane, Kyle Walker, Ceris Williams, and Jemma Appleson all auditioned and made the final cut. They now have their tap shoes and are thrilled to be performing at Leeds Grand Theatre this week.

42nd Street follows the glamorous life of theatre producer Julian Marsh as he tries to stage a Broadway musical at the height of the great depression in New York. Tensions between leading lady Dorothy Brock and enthusiastic newcomer Peggy Sawyer begin at the auditions, but will the show go on and will it be a success?

On the back of sellout houses for The Sound of Music in March 2013, LAOS return to present this glitzy Broadway favourite. With fabulous show-stopping numbers and dazzling tap routines including “We’re in the Money”, “Lullaby of Broadway” and of course “42nd Street”.

42nd Street runs from Tuesday 18th March to Saturday 22nd March so why not get out your tap shoes and join in!

Tickets start from £10. To book contact the Box Office on 0844 848 2700 or book online at www.leedsgrandtheatre.com
