WHEN nine-year-old Jamie Broadbent won a brand new bike in his school’s summer raffle, he knew straight away what to do.

The Ninelands Primary School pupil from Garforth opted to use his £150 voucher, donated by Redrow Homes, to buy a bike for his younger brother Jonny, aged 3.

And this week Redrow went along to the school to meet both boys and present the prize.

“We were pleased to support the school and couldn’t be happier that Jamie chose to use his good fortune to help his brother. He’s a wonderful young man and I’m sure will go very far,” said Jonny Leivesley, marketing coordinator for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), who are building new homes opposite the school.

The raffle was organised by the school’s parent teacher association, the Friends of Ninelands (FON) alongside the annual summer fair. The raffle and fair combined raised a total of £2,461, which will be used to improve outdoor spaces and enhance the school grounds.

Redrow’s voucher for local cycle shop Dave Rayner CycleSport in Garforth was the highest value of 23 prizes donated for the raffle.

Jillian Sabourn, head teacher, said: ''It was very generous of Redrow to provide the main prize for our school's summer raffle. The support from local businesses, like Redrow, helps us achieve our commitment to make learning irresistible, meaningful and memorable, by helping our pupils enjoy access to additional extracurricular activities and items.''

Redrow has previously supported the school by sponsoring a day of cycling activities to coincide with the Tour de Yorkshire passing through Garforth and is hoping to build further relationships with its ‘neighbour’ during the next school year.

Redrow is building two developments side-by-side on the old Stocks block manufacturing plant on Ninelands Lane in Garforth. Aspen Park at Roundwood has three and four-bedroom townhouses from Redrow’s Georgian-influenced Regent Collection, starting from £289,950; while The Poplars currently has four-bedroom detached houses from the Arts & Crafts inspired Heritage Collection, with prices from  £335,950.
