TRAFFIC is likely to increase at a busy area in Leamington now that seven weeks of roadworks related to a major supermarket development are underway.

Warwickshire County Council is overseeing a £2.8 million scheme to to enable access to the new Morrison’s store at the former Ford Foundry site.

The works, which are being carried out by Birse Civils Contractors, will include a new signalised junction on the A425 Old Warwick Road into the development site where the new Morrison’s superstore is being built.

There will also be changes made to the Myton Road/Princes Drive/Old Warwick Road roundabout, including new signalised crossings on the north and south arms. Signals will also be installed at the Princes Drive/Park Drive roundabout and new footway and cycling facilities provided.

An overnight road closure on Princes Drive is planned and no work is to take place during extended peak hours or during the Christmas period - from December 1 to January 2.

Access to properties and businesses will be maintained at all times and diversion routes will be clearly signed.

As part of the works, the speed limit on the Old Warwick Road and Europa Way roundabout is to be reduced to 30mph, bringing it in line with the speed limit on Myton Road, which was introduced as part of a ‘speed awareness’ project.
