Very good food, good service and fair prices. The best we had during our stay at Gorey Village. We went back two days later !

This is a real gem. We had such a lovely meal we returned for our last evening. The staff are lovely and very helpful and the food and wine excellent.
My only suggestion would be that it is hard to find if you don't know the area. Better directions would be helpful. We spent half an hour trying to find it. This could lose bookings.

Lovely food, great wine and friendly service - The half lobster was really tasty as was the burger. Nice big portions mostly although £12 for 2 scallops was a bit overpriced... Disappointing dessert menu but overall it was a nice relaxing meal.

The restaurant has a nice ambience and the seafood is good. I found the staff fairly unfriendly though and the service fairly slow. There are better restaurants on Jersey.

The staff were very welcoming. The atmosphere was lovely. The food was great, beautifully cooked and very tasty. I had gazpacho soup to start with it was delicious. Excellent value for money. Worth a visit.

Have been there twice in the past month and both times somewhat of a deserted restaurant. What struck me today though were the dirty stained menus. I would have left but drinks had been ordered. The food - a burger and a posh fish excellent. Given my experiences this restaurant needs a shake up or it is doomed. The chef would not have a problem getting a job elsewhere though!

Despite having lived close by for almost all my life I had never eaten at The Bass and Lobster before.
Situated a pleasant walk away from the main drag of Gorey the restaurant is extremely tastefully decorated inside and has a pleasant, 'local-friendly' atmosphere. There are no gimmicks to impress tasteless tourists, no staff uniforms that give the unwanted impression of a chain, and no ear-splittingly loud Italian espresso machine scything its way through the ambiance like a Harrier Jet about to take off. Instead what you get is a great meal at a great price.
Food. The pesto minestrone soup I began with was a welcome revelation to a usually bland starter. Easily the best minestrone I've ever had. My girlfriend's foie gras and chicken liver parfait was smoother than a tiger's back. In other words, an excellent start.
The mains were both good - but unfortunately didn't cross the line into superb. I had fish and chips. The fish was delicate and tasted fresh, the batter crisp without being hard. My only issue, and what prevents the restaurant from receiving a 5 star review is the ludicrously sized chips which are more like bookmarks than fries. In my opinion chips/fries have a critical mass point, a size beyond which they begin to remind one of under-seasoned roast potatoes. The novelty of massive chips wears off rather rapidly once one starts filling up on everything else. My girlfriend's main, a slow-cooked boneless rib with the tantalizing 'Voudou Slaw' was incredible.
As I struggle with dairy I'm not much of a dessert person. My sticky toffee pudding was great and I'd happily go back for another. The cheesecake was also excellent, its freshness and uniqueness (salted popcorn flavour) making it stand out from the crowd.
In sum, I really like this place and would love to have given five stars. However the hulking chips, whilst initially entertaining did rather spoil an otherwise delicious and great value meal.
I will definitely be back in the future.

Visited for lunch with family on 23rd May. Wife and I both had set menu (3 course for £26) - good choice and both really enjoyed what we had - really well cooked. Kids menu was refreshing as steered clear of fast food style choices and also gave option to have half portion of adult menu. Would definitely recommend.

Visited the restaurant on the 16th of May having booked a table for 9 p.m. through the hotel we stayed at. Upon arrival our table wasnt ready as the previous diners had turned up late. We were offerred a complimentary bottle of wine and breads to keep us going! Eventually the staff set us up another table, but the food was worth the wait!!

We had never been to this restaurant before as I'd always thought it was a mainly fish restaurant and that wouldn't be my preference. We bought a deal as a friend kept telling me that there was plenty of choice. We had a set menu for £26.50 - spoilt for choice. I had a goats cheese, beetroot and walnut salad to start, then the burger with chorizo - the chips were hand cut which is always a good sign. Then the beautiful dessert of Snickers eton mess - yummy. Hubby had a sticky toffee pudding which I had to try and was equally good. The staff could smile a bit more but they were busy. We will definitely be going back again.

My bf and I went here for my birthday and it was a superb meal. We went on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was pretty quiet but we got lovely, friendly service. We had the sharing platter to start (goats cheese, chicken pate, onion rings, chorizo etc) and it was amazing. We then had the special steak with lobster tails and it was honestly one of the best main courses I have ever had, and the best steak I have eaten in Jersey. Slightly disappointing was the dessert menu as there was not a massive selection however we had a really nice bottle of Prosecco (the waiter put cherries in the glasses which Ive never seen before) and there was no rush to get rid of us from the restaurant, even though it was quiet. Cant wait to go back again soon!

We went for my wife's birthday . Had a great meal food amazing . There was a small mistake on one of our meals but they dealt with it really well. Didn't charge us for that one meal and offered us free drinks. Perfect.

We had a really nice meal here last week - everyone enjoyed it apart from my husband and son who had the fillet steak - they were very disappointed after being told that the fillet was amazing - it was in fact very chewy - but apart from that everything food was good - the restaurant was very busy and the staff were run off their feet - not the usual standard of service we are used to here - so a bit disappointed

Slightly removed from the profusion of harbour-side restaurants in Gorey the affordable Bass and Lobster stands out with a pleasant ambience and original dishes with excellent presentation. My lunch was advertised as "posh" fish and chips and included tempura cod and salmon, prawn and scallops served with a side salad, mushy peas and chips. Everything except the twice cooked chips was excellent and the presentation was outstanding. Not sure why the chips were underwhelming, maybe they could have chosen a more suitable potato?
My wife enjoyed crusted cod with crushed new potatoes and asparagus and said it was all excellent. Her blackberry and apple crumble with cream was very tasty. Guess how I know?
Looking forward to our next visit.

We needed to eat late and almost everywhere stops serving at 2030. It was 2040 and the Bass and Lobster welcomed us with open arms. The waiter was brilliant and didnt make us feel like we were keeping everyone up! We had a sharing platter for starter which was fine, chorizo, pate, calamari, olives, tomatoes and plenty of bread. Main courses were amazing. I had grilled scallops on wild mushroom risotto which was heavenly, full of flavour. A delicious liqueur coffee for put and I was stuffed to the gills. I would definitely go back and have all the other specials. Lovely atmosphere and great food.

We thought we'd give the Bass & Lobster another chance when a group of us wanted a nice evening out in the east of the island. The place was half empty on a Saturday evening, when we turned up more than half an hour early for our 'earlist we can have you' 9pm table.
We were seated, ordered drinks and browsed the menus..We ordered 3 of the tasting plates (£11.50) to share, salami's, pate's, breads etc.. very good.
One of us had spotted the fillet steak with a tail of lobster on the special's blackboard, priced at £26.50.All 6 of us ended up ordering this dish, in 3 different cooked styles- 2 rare, 3 medium rare, 1 medium, which we made sure the waiter wrote down correctly.
And when it came time to be served, the waiter knew which plates to place where.Unfortunately within a short time, my wife's dish had to be sent back to the kitchen to be replaced, as the medium-rare fillet had come out well done.
My own medium-rare fillet was more like medium.. and while it was tasty, it was very much on the small side. The advertised tail of lobster was really half a tail, but was also tasty. After 15- 20 minutes, my wife finally got her fillet as she had ordered it.
They were kind enough to give her a free desert on the house. The deserts were very good.Overall we had a nice evening, but it could have been so much better.. the service was very average and far from service with a friendly smile.
The food was very good, but smaller portions than you'd expect and overpriced.

I visited for a lunch with my fiancé and had a lovely time. From start to finish it was amazing, the service was impeccable, very friendly and efficient with the waiter taking my coat for me. The mushroom soup starter was delicious, I ordered the pan fried scallops with pea risotto, rocket and Parma ham - it just melted in my mouth, my fiancé had the char grilled rib eye steak and said it was the best he had ever tasted - perfectly cooked, tender and full of flavour. Will definitely be returning here again and highly recommend it.

Valentine's Day dinner, will always be memorable due to a really great dinning experience at The Bass and Lobster.
Once agin the staff were very welcoming, friendly and with a good sense of humour. Pleasant seaside location and a Tavern style of decor. Valentine's menu had a good choice of courses and we had no difficulty in selecting the Lobster and the Surf and Turf as our mains. On many occasions we have experienced a lower quality of steak than actually advertised, but on this visit, the Filet Steak was exactly what I got and it was perfectly cooked.
Very pleasant evening with good staff interaction and great value food.
Highly recommended

Meal was brilliant service was prompt polite and welcoming. The ambiance was just right and the price was even better. They have a two course menu or ala carte to chose from, great restaurant.

Such a shame. The setting was really pleasant and the staff very friendly and engaged. My starter was first class but the main course was dire. A stodgy mass of gnocchi smothered in cloying cheese and parsley source. I still felt queasy hours after the meal. Unfortunately this was a corporate event so I only had the one vegetarian option. I would have marked it lower but to be fair my omnivorous colleagues said their meals were good so it seemed unfair to dismiss the restaurant as "poor" on the basis of my experience alone. However I won't be going back. Yet another example of how difficult it can be to get good vegetarian food eating out in the Channel Islands.
