Gardeners who have helped to make Hunstanton bloom this summer were recognised at the annual Hunstanton in Bloom Front Garden Competition presentation at Thaxter’s Garden Centre, Dersingham on 29 July.

Cllr Elizabeth Watson, Hunstanton in Bloom Committee Chairman, said: “The judges were once again impressed by the standard of entries.

“Front gardens make such a difference to the overall look of an area. Well kept gardens show a pride in the area and make it feel so much more welcoming. This is particularly important in a tourist town like Hunstanton. The awards are a nice way to say thanks to residents for their efforts.”

The winners were announced at a presentation held at Thaxter’s café. The results were as follows, with prizes being generously donated by the garden centre.

Mr A Winnington, 33 Andrews Place (£75 Voucher for Thaxter's Garden Centre)

Mr M Dyble, 2 Old Town Way (£50 voucher for Thaxter's Garden Centre).

Mrs C Hume, 61 Campbell Close (£25 voucher for Thaxter's Garden centre)

The overall winner, Mr Winnington was also presented with a Challenge Cup, kindly donated by TV personality Anneka Rice.

The competition was organised by the Hunstanton in Bloom committee as part of its Britain in Bloom campaign. This will be the third year that the town has been invited to take part in the prestigious national horticultural competition. Judges, who will be scrutinising the displays and work of the committee, arrive on 8 August and the committee is holding its breath, hoping that this will be the year that the town scoops a Gold Award.

The Hunstanton in Bloom committee includes representatives from the community, businesses and organisations. Together they aim to create imaginative planting and landscaping as well as finding innovative and attractive solutions to vandalism, graffiti and waste.
