How would you know if a central heating system required a power flush or not?

Well, certainly if a new boiler is fitted any reputable plumber would recommend that a power flush of your system is carried out before the new boiler is commissioned. In fact, not doing so may well invalidate any guarantee that comes with the new boiler.

However, a power flush of the system may also be necessary if you are experiencing some or all of the following symptoms:

radiator(s) cold at the bottom;

radiators cold at top and need bleeding, this is often due to the build up of gas in the system, which can be a by product of rusting;

radiator(s) cold all over, which may be due to blocked valves and pipes;

irritating boiler noise, a warning sign of imminent and quite possibly, costly problems;

little or no hot water;

boiler cutting out;

no circulation.

These symptoms can have a range of causes but they can be a significant indicator that a power flush may be required. The reason for this is quite simple, a build up of rust within the central heating system that creates black (iron oxide) sludge. Often, an indicator of this corrosion can be dirty black or brown water present when bleeding radiators. Another problem that can occur in hard water areas is lime scale, which may also build up in combination boilers in the same way that it would a kettle.

A solution to these problems can be power flushing or de-scaling, which will remove the cause of the problems, the sludge or lime scale in the system. Once the flush has been completed your system should be back to its normal efficient operation and of course this can return a significant saving on your household bills. Power flushing your central heating system should provide you with both an efficient heating system and long term protection of the equipment within that system.

If you’re not sure whether the symptoms that you are experiencing with your central heating system mean that you need a power flush or not then it is best to get professional and reliable advice first.

At the moment our bestofhinckley plumber – Roy Lee Plumbing & Heating is offering 15% OFF the standard rates for central heating system power flushes. However, a power flush may not be necessary and Roy will always be pleased to check your system and provide you with a no obligations quotation to sort out your problem.

If you would like to know more CLICK here to visit Roy Lee’s feature on thebestofhinckley and take a look at his special bestof ‘member offers’ for December 09 or give him a call now on 01455 268 676 for his advice and/or to arrange a quotation.
/058da0cb-900e-404e-ac9b-05a4c0238366.jpg
